Kubota L3400HSD
Thanks to TBN, I have come to the realization I need a box blade. :) My tractor is a Kubota L3400HST. I also have decided not to buy a cheapie and end up regretting it. That said, I do like the looks of the Woods GB series and thought the 60" model would be a good fit. Well I came across a very slightly used GB72 (72") for about $220 less than the GB60 new and $350 less than a new GB72. Is the 72" too much for my tractor? Just as I don't want a lesser box, I also don't want one too agressive/heavy for my tractor. Thanks

I think your L3400HST should handle a GB72. Jay

I have an industrial gannon H120 box. 66" wide mechanical arm (same as hydraulic, but powered by "armstrong") for the scarifiers. It is over 900#.

Tractor is a L3410 HST with R4's and the loader on it.

It does fine with it, but when pulling a full load (25 cu ft) in the box up a 30degree slope, I loose traction.

You can use the G72, but may have some traction issues. Depends on the dirt you are traveling over and pulling thru.

I was in the same boat: I have a JD 3320, so it is comparable HP tractor. I was looking at the "Frontier" brand 72 inch, the dealer had a brand new hold over that he'd sell for $850. Yesterday, I ended up purchasing a barely used Woods GB65 (65 inch) for $600. It is wide enough to cover the tire tracks, wide enough to move some dirt, and I think it was the right choice for me because it is the same blade, just a different color and $250 cheaper. If think the 72" would be a good choice, I know that is the route I would have gone if I wouldn't have found the used GB65.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help. Think I'll wait and see if a 60" or 65" comes along. I want to use it in the woods for trail grooming and feel the narrower box may be to my advantage.

Beersngars:

If you really want to make the box blade work well, spend the extra needed for a Top & Tilt. You can make all the adjustments by hand, but you will spend a lot of time off the tractor. I would also go for the 72 inch blade. It gives a little more flexibility working edges, and only 3.5 inches wider on each side.

beersngrs:

I changed my mind about the 72" suggestion; for trail grooming and manuvering in the woods a 60"/65" box blade would be a better choice than a 72". Roots and rocks can really stress any size tractor-box blade set up. The local Land Pride dealer was trying to push a 72" BB on me (He just wanted to move it.). I am currently in the process of widening my "tractor trail" on my property. My GB60 works for me :). Jay

A 60 inch is probably the ideal length for the 3400 HST. But! if you can buy a like new GB72 for $350 less than new, your local dealer may give you more than you paid for a trade. Might make your new GB60 less expensive.

Good thought, but it IS my dealer who has the GB72. :(
