Grapple need a grapple

API Grapple. Not as mean looking as the others but work good. Less money.

Bolt on or the even less expensive weld on grapple bucket kits are by far the least expensive way to get a grapple into your life. I don't know that they've ever been compared directly to standard grapples with regard to units of work per hour but some estimates are possible. Compared to a plain bucket they must be at least four or five times as efficient in moving brush and logs etc as you don't need to get off the tractor. I would guess that a standard grapple is probably ten times as efficient as a bucket so that makes the grapple bucket about half as efficient/flexible as a full grapple. Not a bad deal considering the cost is also about half and it leaves you with a single FEL tool that is really very versatile as well as being about the most economical way to improve dealing with brush etc.

A lot of the trees that I take out are pushed over, rather than cut down. I like it that the grapple rake lets a lot of the dirt fall out when I pick up the stumps.
When I ordered my Gator last spring, I got the 48" with half-inch outer tines and the extra spacer tines, since I thought the gap was a bit too wide in the stock rake.
This summer I somehow managed to slightly twist the grapple, either by pushing on something with just one tine or by picking up something very heavy 'way off center (I've done both of these things this summer). Despite the twist, everything still works great, and I've been really pleased with what I got (and the price I paid!). I also bought a toothbar for my bucket at the same time as the grapple rake, and the toothbar makes the bucket a much more effective tool for nearly every use except maybe backdragging and smoothing a surface.

If you do NOT want to add another hydraulic to the front of your tractor...you could get a set of these from Westendorf...relatively cheap and easy to install and use...;)
