Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

scruffy, do you think caffeine is "habit forming" or is it "addictive"? We don't use the decaf, and I drink a lot of coffee, but can't hold a candle to what my wife drinks. She gets a cup of coffee when she gets out of bed in the morning and she keeps a cup of coffee within reach until she goes to bed at night (carries a travel cup and thermos if she just goes to the grocery store), and she's been doing that every since I've known her - nearly 37 years. Personally, I just drink coffee from the time I get up until sometime between noon and 4 p.m. at which time I change to Gatorade/Powerade, iced tea, or beer until supper, then it's iced tea or ice water the rest of the evening. Ten to 20 cups a day is enough for me, but not for her.

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Jim, I like to head out in the back yard to the table and set there with a 44 oz thermos of coffee, and my mug of course, one cup ain't gonna cut the cobwebbs! Normally takes a 12 cup pot to 'prime the pump', of course that '12 cup' pot is equal to only 8 cups (mugs) of coffee.
Bird, I can't tell ya! I would suspect both habit and addictive!
I know you can get nasty headaches from stopping your intake, but then, you can get the same by thinking to hard! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I can relate to your wife's coffee drinking! It's the same around our house, both the wife and I drink coffee from rooster crow to bedtime, and many the times have gotten up in the middle of the night and had a cup! We run a BUNN two burner commercial coffee maker (12 cup pots) and make an average 5 or 6 pots daily...always toting a go mug around when I head out the door...but have regular coffee stops where I know they have GOOD coffee, and stop for fillups!

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

If it's a wakeup you want from coffee, remember that the lighter the roast the more caffeine you get. Dark roasts, like French Roast, have the least caffeine of all...contrary to popular opinion.

We don't use the 'fancy' blends, its good ol' Folgers gourmet surpreme, or Farmer's Brothers, whichever is in the pantry. We've got 5 lbs of Columbian coffee beans around that will probably be around forever...didn't like the flavor. My wife is very picky on HER coffee.

Mine, too, scruffy. She only wants hers lukewarm, not hot; otherwise she doesn't care what it is as long as it's coffee./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Boy does that sound familiar! Mine will let a perfectly good hot cup of coffee sit until it is somewhere between luke and cold, then drink it and complain about cold coffee! Go figure. I like mine HOT, will drink it at luke (with complaints and weird faces) and dump it when cold (or microwave it).

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

scruffy, if my wife gets a fresh, hot cup of coffee out of the pot she puts an ice cube in it./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I'm just like you. If I'm in the house I microwave it if it gets cool and if I'm out in the shop, I dump it and pour another cup from the thermos I carry out there.

By the way, I try to find time to read all the messages (sometimes hard to do), but I think I'm going to be offline for a few days in a couple of weeks. I know you were offline during your move. How did you catch up; just clear the "new" messages? If I'm gone 5 or 6 day, then there'll be so much work to do when I get back, I know I'll be far behind and probably never able to read all the messages that are posted while I'm gone.

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Bird, I must admit, some messages it took a long time to get around to reading! For the most part, I spent a couple of all nighters, so to speak to get caught up in the reading department! Thousands of them!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Now days, I don't have much else to do. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif No tractor /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif, no work /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif, boredom /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif, always thought it would be nice laying around home, but not this way.
Good luck on your attempt to get caught back up! Best advice is read those of immediate interest, and gradually get to those with a lessor interest level to you yourself until the last one gets read. It will not be an overnight process, as these fellers are relentless with their posts! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

That ice cube in the coffee must be a women thing!!!! My wife is the same way!!! After 20 years in the Navy coffee is the one thing I won't give up. Gave up alcohol, cussing, and staying up late!!! Have to get up early to beat the heat and get my tractor work in. Brush hogging my field now. Takes about 8 hours or so.
By the way my tractor used to be named "Old Blue" even though it's a new NH 1720. Had to do with it being the last year of production with NH going with all the fancy looking shapes. Now my son has changed it to "Thomas" as in the train and my little tractor to "James"
Still "Old Blue" in my heart!!!!
Have a great day!!!

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Bird,

Just got back from a 10 day hiatus, and am "trying" to catch up. It's not easy! I'm behind a couple thousand messages. Think my plan is to divide and conquer. Have cleaned off the Kubota area, and am wading through the various "general" forums as can do.

Re: Coffee. The 10 days in the midwest and elsewhere was dismal in the coffee department /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif. My Sweetie could hardly wait until we got home where we could brew up some "real" coffee. I brew it strong and black as coal. Only takes two cups to get my motor running, but others taste it and stay away. Fine. Leaves more for me. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

GlueGuy, 10 day hiatus? I don't know how you'd ever catch up. I just plan to be gone 5 days next week for a fast trip to West Virginia and back, and figure I'll be so far behind here at home when I get back that I've wondered whether I'd ever be able to catch up again or not.

Like I said, my wife sips coffee all day and I do at least half the day or more, but we have friends in Baton Rouge who only drink one cup of coffee a day and I've told them that they get more caffeine in that one cup than we do in 4 or 5 pots./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Maybe you make coffee like they do./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Well, I think I am basically "caught up". Spent an hour and 1/2 last night, but did do a lot of skipping around.

When I make coffee, I just fill the grinder to the top with espresso roast, and grind it 'till it's powder. Throw it in the c-maker with 12 cups of water & let it rip. We get about 5 "mugs" out of the whole thing, and we each have two + a little more. That's it.

My Dad had been diagnosed with Parkinsons disease several years ago, and we noticed that his hand was shaking. When the doc asked him how much coffee he drank, he said 4 or 5 "pots" per day. Doc suggested that he cut back a bit on that. He did, and the shaking went away. He never did get the tremors.

Re: Naming Tractors /SUPERBABY

Larry,

Thanks for not elaborating on what ideas you'd gotten from me. I don't want any liability suits! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

As for names, I haven't named my L4310HST, but some of the folks I work with call it "Sparky", in reference to an incident in which I punched a hole in a natural gas main with my auger, but that's a story for the Safety Forum... Let's just say I was glad that it was Miss Utility's fault, not mine. Uh, oh yeah, and that it didn't go BOOM!!!

Re: Naming Tractors /SUPERBABY

Well, well, ...look what the wind blew in!

Mark, I was thinking just today (believe it or not /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif ) about posting a general-alarm "where is Chalkley?" to the group.

Thanks for the idea; of course the ideas I got from you will be whichever ones result in my injury or death! (my lawyer has clear instructions to that effect /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

In all seriosity, though, if/when I EVER get a handle on posting photos here, I'll be naming names and giving credit-where-due, to the best of my memory, for the help I got on TBN, with SUPERBABY. (still got a few things I want to do first though, ...certainly not on the scale of your mods./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif )

Nice to know you're still kickin",

Larry
