Naming Tractors

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... you got a point there. That might explain everything! Like I bought me a big-screen TV... so how come I'm watching the old 25"? I bought me a new car... so how come I'm driving the truck? I bought me a new chair... so how come I'm still read'n on the couch? Geeze... I need to learn when to keep my mouth shut! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Thanks John. I'm gonna go home tonight and start drop'n hints about how dangerous "Nehi" can really be. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Yeah, FarmerBob, it wasn't really logical for me to never drink RC Cola after seeing the bottling plant. In fact, on Thanksgiving Day, 1969, my wife bought a 6-pack of Coca Cola (does everyone remember when they came in bottles in 6-packs?). One of them had an entire wrapper off a package of cheese crackers in it, so when we saw that, we didn't open it. I called the local Coca Cola plant and the guy there asked if they could have someone come by to see it the next afternoon. I told him I'd get home about 4:30 p.m. and they could come anytime except between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. when I was watching the TV news. He knocked on the door at 6:15 p.m./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif He explained how and why such things could never happen, but do./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Then he said he was supposed to bring me a "complimentary" 6-pack of Cokes, but that he was out of them today and asked if I'd like him to bring them tomorrow. He also asked if he could have the one with the wrapper in it. I told him to just forget it and I'd keep the one with the wrapper in it for a paperweight on my desk and it's still sitting here unopened today! After 31 years, you can't read the writing on the wrapper anymore; just looks like a wad of cellophane in there./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bird...

I used to have a couple of Pepsi bottles with "strange things" in them, but guess I tossed 'em over the years. Did you know that in some small Southern towns the Coca-Cola bottlers still offer bottled Coke in the cardboard 6-pack with the carry handle? They also sell them by the case in the wooden cases, and... the bottles are refundable! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Our CEO is a real Coke nut and when we have our monthly meeting he serves us Coke in a bottle. It's so refreshing to know that all the "good ole stuff" from years past hasn't become totally extinct. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

ecard,

Yes, some of us do name our tractors. My JD4100Hydro was christened "Jenny", for obvious reasons - she's sweet as maple syrup, yet still works like a mule. (A Jenny is a female mule.)

As any OLD, OLD farmer would tell you, mules were much more valuable than horses - they were smarter, stronger, could run faster, etc. A clear case of hybrid vigor.

And as any smart guy knows, a lady who likes you will do a lot more for you! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

FarmerBob, I'd still rather have the old bottles (especially when they were 6 oz. bottles) than the 12 oz. cans. The bottle I was talking about that I still have is a 10 oz. I'm old enough to remember when I worked in my dad's service station, the coke machine took a nickel, and we paid $.80 for a case of 24 (plus 2 cent deposit on each bottle). Then they went to the trouble of converting all the coin operated machines to take 6 cents for just a little while before converting them again to take a dime.

Bob, I think the Moon Pies are still the same. I think most of my taste buds have died along with a few other things!
Bird, do you remember the Grapette in the little bottles and the Orange Crush in its secial shaped bottle. I remember that you could get a 6 oz Coke for a nickel and a dime Baby Ruth and "Make a meal of it"

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

My sister-in-law is visiting, and TBN came up in at dinner time. I mentioned the "naming" thread, and my sweetie comes up with LUCY!. I think this will work; she has a flaming red head.... Ico ico!

I remember the days you're talk'n about. Most of the machines had the old cast push bar to release the soda bottle.

I used to do some diving on the Tennessee River. If I remember correctly (it's been at least 25-years ago), I was diving at Clifton, TN. There had been a Coca-Cola bottling plant there in the early 1900s. We were used to finding old medicine bottles, etc., but I came across a Coke bottle and didn't think much about it since I couldn't really tell much in the murky water. When I got back to the boat and emptied my bag, I discovered it was an old brown-glass Coke bottle and I believe the date on it was 1903. I've still got it packed away in a box somewhere. I'll bet they weren't much more than a penny back in those days. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Yeah, I'm starting to feel like Ricky Ricardo. We were talking about moving a couple of things down to the "lower flat", and I said Lucy can do that. Oh LUCY!!!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

FarmerBob, as to your not telling the differance between decaf and leaded coffee, all I can say is, I can! The decaf will give me a headache every time! Therefor, I stay away from unleaded coffee.

 / Naming Tractors #54
Yep, I know what you mean about "dying" or at least changing taste buds. Like you, FarmerBob, I doubt that I'd taste the difference between decaf 'n regular, and unlike Scruffy, I doubt that I'd notice any other difference either. Taste is a funny thing. My wife has a brother and sister-in-law in the neighborhood who both drink massive quantities of diet Pepsi (don't like Coke) and I have a brother and sister-in-law who drink lots of regular Pepsi (don't like Coke). Our daughters drink Coke (don't want Pepsi). My wife & I don't drink a lot of cola, but when we buy it, we buy whichever one is on sale the cheapest./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I doubt that I could taste the difference. Of course, it saves us money another way, too, since those other folks never know which one we'll have on hand, they bring their own when they come to visit./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Well, I've sort of tentatively named mine Yoda the 'Bota.... My son came up with that one... And that's what I'll call her until i come up with something better....

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Scruffy -- Most decaf coffee uses chemicals that bind with the caffeine and pull it out. Some of those chemicals remain in the coffee and that's probably what's giving you the headache. Try getting a hold of some Swiss Water Process decaf. No chemicals used in the process = no chemical reactions.

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Scruffy, you're describing a classical caffeine withdrawal headache. Stay off caffeine for several days and the headache will fade.

Bird...

Because my dad was a Pepsi bottler, my sister and I were never allowed to drink anything except Pepsi or other products that he bottled. He used to send a truck to the house once a week to offload cases of drinks and pick up the empties. Back then, I really liked Pepsi, Orange Crush, Donald Duck, and some of the others he sent home. But after he died and my mom sold the plants, I kind of migrated over to Coke and Dr Pepper. I don't drink a lot of any of them anymore, but when I do, it's usually a Diet Coke. I rarely drink Pepsi anymore unless there's nothing else available. I think my dad kind of burned me out on Pepsi when I was a kid.

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Boondock, I figured the chemicals used in 'leaching' the caffine from the coffee was the culprit, but ain't really interested in switching! (its been that way since I was a kid)
RCH, caffine withdrawel? Drink a pot of coffee, try a cup of decaf, and bingo! Headache, nope don't think its withdrawel symptoms, besides, if (and has happened) a Doc says give up caffine, my response is what cemetary do you want me to report to? I don't drink alcohol, so a guy has to have one pleasure anyway! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Coffee is mine! At this point in life, I am sure not going to worry about it killing me!

Re: Naming Tractors: We have a Winner!!!

Bully for you Scruffy! The undertaker will have to prise my pipe from my left hand and my coffe cup from my right. I survived a stroke in1993 that should have taken me out, so I am living on borrowed time anyway and I intend to enjoy what I like on my remaining time. I like to 'smell the roses". In the early morning I will get a full pipe and a cup of coffee and go down to the barn and set on a 5 gal. bucket and watch the chickens and the barn kittys antics. it's my "quite time".
