Naming Tractors

First, ALL tractors are "she", like ships.

I haven't officially named my JD750, but Old Faithful would fit, she's never failed me.

My 1938 McCormick-Deering F14 is The Red Menace. That's due to the blisters and other bruises and contusions she handed me in the process of rebuilding her and starting her for the first time. She's a stem-winder, and trying to spin over a newly overhauled engine with a hand crank fast enough to get it to fire will dang sure take the starch out of ya!

What's this ? "Gender-police" on TBN? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

[[[First, ALL tractors are "she", like ships.]]]

Not so fast, there.

BUSES and SEMI'S are "ship" vehicles. TRACTORS are "tugboat" vehicles!

If you look around Seattle, you'll find quite a few "manly" names on push-pull boats.

Okay, so I'm not politically correct /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I'm a child of the 50's and a graduate of the John Wayne School of Sensitivity... /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

In this Kinder, Gentler Tractor World, I'm sure it damages the machine's delicate self esteem to assign gender-specific names. Perhaps we should name them all Pat.

When my tractor was delivered, I took it out to the West side of the property and did some plowing. Unfortunately, I was trying to mow./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Draft control? Never heard of it!

I noticed some stuff across a drainage canal on my neighbor's property that needed some attention, but I knew I couldn't get to it. So I decided it was NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard). Similar stuff was underneath my brush hog deck, and I could take care of that, so I decided that at least my tractor was in my back yard. In other words, my tractor was IMBY. The stuff under the deck has long since turned to fertilizer, but my tractor is still IMBY. I didn't name it that, it's just what it is. So that's what I call it.

My wife calls me Tonkaman, but that's another story....

TTYL.

I'm gonna live forever....So far, so good....

I think once you know the story, IMBY is a fine name for your tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

But even beyond that, I hereby nominate you for the best user name on TBN. An oceanographic research guy named Sub Dude! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I hope there's no implication here that at home your wife has you wearing a T-shirt that says, "SUBDUED"?

Too much!!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Don't know about y'all, but if you have a mid-pto, I think you definitely have a boy tractor! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Naming my tractor was a no-brainer. It's a Ferguson, and we automatically started calling it Fergie. I never gave it much thought, but I always assumed Fergie was a boy tractor, or rather an old man. He's gray and old, and not very feminine, but he runs great!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I was away from my tractor for a couple days(and my computer) - I see a lot of good suggestions - Love the Mowzilla!!!!!

My wife calls my Boomer a "toy" - they just don't get it.

How about "Power Toy" as a good name?

I will be bush hogging tonight!!!

In our household, there are two Japanese products of note. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gifMy wife and our Kubota 2910. Wife already has a name. Our Kubota is named

She is a little cross eyed, her lower lip (loader) protrudes a little too far. But she is always faithful and never complains. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Those are some great names guys. I decided I wanted a uni-*** name so people wouldn't think I was 100% crazy, so I named my new 'bota "Nehi" after those good ole orange soda pops I used to drink as a kid. She's/he's orange and sooooooo refreshing /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Actually, Nehi is really a "she", but don't tell anyone /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

FarmerBob, that brings back memories of all thw "Nehi" drinks. Cola, Rootbeer, orange, grape and remember the Creme soda. I miss the R C Cola and a Moon PIE.

Jim, I did like the Nehi drinks, especially the orange and grape, preferably with a bag of Tom's Peanuts, and I even liked the Moon Pies, but I wandered into an RC Cola bottling plant one day when I was about 13. I haven't drunk an RC since that day after I saw the water they were "washing" the bottles in. It was probably no worse than the other bottling plants, but I haven't seen them./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I guess, since I've spent so much time re-grading the drive and removing rocks from the fields, I try going with Rocky. (could go either way, Rocki) But since I've left Rocky alone with Casey (Case DC) and we have no off-spring, I can assume one of two things. . . . either they are both the same gender. . . or they are not attracted to one another. (Maybe Rocky does not like older tractors).

An alternate name could be Stoney. (in the event that Rocky is 'taken')

My dad was a Pepsi bottler, but also had the franchise for Nehi, Donald Duck, and others. He used to take me to the plant with him when I was just a kid and I can certainly remember seeing some strange things come through the quality station. I've seen mice, roaches, crickets, frogs, cigarettes, and various other "unintentional ingredients" in bottled and capped drinks. I often wondered how many made it past the guy watch'n the bottles as they passed down the line. Can you imagine finishing a nice refreshing soda and then noticing a dead mouse in the bottle? /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Now most drinks come in cans. I wonder just how they check for the added ingredients in those? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Oh well... I lived through a lot worse things than that. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... a good ole RC 'n Moon Pie. Now that truly does bring back fond memories. Have you noticed that the Moon Pies just don't taste the same any more???? /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

FarmerBob,

When I was a kid, about eight years old, I found a clothes pin in a bottle of HIRES root beer. I sent HIRES a postcard suggesting they look in the bottle before they fill it with pop. About two weeks later I received a big package in the mail. A root beer making kit with all the stuff, bottles caps and bottle capper./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Over the next 50 years I have written a lot of letters to manufactures over this and that, but never got another root beer kit. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

My tractor is named "His", my wifes tractor is "Hers"

Al...

Interesting story. What you didn't say was whether you bottled your own root beer? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My wife likes my tractor "Nehi", but doesn't want anything to do with operating it. I had to buy her a lawn tractor of her own just to get her to keep the area around the house mowed. It's a Craftsman 16HP and doesn't have a name... except when she tells me she's not going to get out in the hot sun and ride that "damn" thing. So I guess we could name it "damnit" or something along those lines. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Actually, I'll have to give her credit. She truly does mow around the house most of the time and does a bang-up job on the flower beds. She's just a little intimidated by all the gadgets on the Kubota. She did ride it around the property one afternoon and was impressed how easy it was to handle.

Shuhhh.... Don't let the cat out of the bag... you may end up driving the Craftsman and the wife will have the Kubota Nehi.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
