Looks familiar….. Most people don’t realize it, but you can tell an early CJ from a M model (military) by the gas cap/filler. All GI vehicles use a huge filler tube/cap, whereas the civilian models are regular size.

I had already been driving for close to 2 years when I took DE.
It was just to lower my insurance rates.
Must have been the cheapest of the cheap companies that was hired by the school board.
The instructor used his own personal car, a Plymouth Valiant. It had the smallest slant 6 that could barely get out of it's own way.
There would be 4 students in there and each of us got the wheel for half an hour.
One of the guys was the worst of the worst drivers. When we finally got to go on the highway he almost sideswiped a police cruiser. The instructor told him to change lanes and he did. Didn't signal. Didn't check for traffic, nothing.
The cop gave us the dirtiest look but seeing it was a Driver's ED car never pulled us over thankfully.
That dumb a-s probably would have rolled us into the drainage ditch.
The instructor always cut his turn short.
Irony is that guy became a cop.

I passed it in my mother's gorgeous 1999 GMC Yukon, green, 5.7 Vortec- and barn doors.

I loved that thing. She would go on to trade it in for a Buick Rendezvous- that thing was both ugly and ahead of it's time.

I had a '96 two-door Yukon with barn doors. Loved that thing

Please indulge me in some questions, I'm not familiar with the process for obtaining a motorcycle driver license. Are you saying that, if you get a motorcycle license, you are automatically allowed to use that license for driving a car?

Also, how do they handle the driving exam, does the examiner actually ride on the back of the motorcycle with you (I can't imagine they would do that)?

1974 Sedan Deville dark brown. (Mom's) Looked like this (pic is from the web). Had the 501cc engine. Drove like a large boat. Parking was tricky on a good day. We all knew the route for the test. Only mistake I got knocked for was hitting the blinker too early.

Our driver's Ed was taught over the summer by whatever teachers wanted extra cash. In my case, the guidance counselor.

3 cars were provided by local dealers. Every year they rotated by make. We had Ford Implala and similar. Our 'facility' was the HS parking lot. We drove in about a 10 mile radius from there (never reaching a town bigger than our own 4000 pop or so). No interstate highways within a hours drive at the time. We often stopped at the local bakery for a 'longjohn'. Driving age in SD was (and is, I believe) 14. Some were only 13 during driver's ed.

A 1982 Chevette! Parallel parking was a breeze! That was 1984.

My sister had a ''Vette' I learned to drive stick on it. It was probably about that same year, maybe a bit older. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got a 200SX with a 5 speed. That was a great transmission.
