Yesterday, while walking near a wooded are in the city I heard a noise and look over to see an empty 16oz Miller High life can making it's way across the leaf litter.
At first I thought I was the victim of a joke and someone had a string tied to this can as was pulling it along, but the can made a right and started heading right for me then stopped. Still unable to completely process what in the heck was going on I decided to take a close look and this is what I found.
It's a snake with it's head stuck in an empty beer can!

Not the best picture as I was climbing over limbs and trying to get the cell phone into camera mode with the sun shining on the view window.

I guess he really needed a drink :licking: I wonder if the can was unopened when he found it
I grabbed the snake and pushed his head in the can, bent the pop top to vertical and was able to remove him fairly easily.

I captured him and relocated him to my place. He is now my lead pest control officer....Rodent Division.

I can't see his belly, is it white, yellow, or some other shade. It looks like he doesn't have any teeth, does he have teeth? From the scale color and texture he looks like what we call a common black snake or rat snake. We used to keep them in the corn bins to eat the rodents. They are pretty docile, I only had one bite out of countless that I handled as a kid. If he is a racer look out as they will bite you repeatedly, they are a very aggressive snake, but also good rodent eaters, they will also eat a lot of your young song birds and eggs as well. Racers have a lot of very sharp teeth!

After thinking about it I don't think it is a rat snake as it is too skinny, might be a racer though. You're in Florida aren't you? If so, it could be almost anything with the exotics that have been unleashed on the enviroment there.

Did not try to bite but then again he did have a can on his head.... so maybe he was inebriated?

Racer? I don't think so...not with a drinking problem anyway... :drink:

Due to sarcasm not being understood in earlier snake post, i stand by my belief that it was NOT a hybridized cotton-tailed-rattle-mocassin LOL

Nice save. I rescued a raccoon that had a can of beans stuck on his head...it was hard to do without laughing........
