....the egg was just sittting on the ground in the woods we were cleaning up....no nest or anything....just laying on the ground. No farm or anything around here....just woods for miles. I doubt a chicken would get far before a coyote or fox got her. This egg looks like a store bought chicken egg......but, I have never seen any chickens around here...and somehow I doubt it is a chickens egg. What other kind of bird lays eggs that look like chicken???

Some duck eggs are pretty similar to chicken eggs. Any water on your propery?? Maybe left over from an Easter Egg hunt...Regards, Mike

We had a family of foxes living nearby. They raided chickens from a nearby house. The foxes took both chickens and eggs. Sometimes I would find whole eggs as well as eggs that had been eaten. And lots of chicken feathers. :D

Whipporwhils lay eggs on the ground with no nest. I don't think the eggs are while though.

Later,
Dan

Yep....best I can figure is that a fox carried that egg and left it for a later snack. It's just too big for duck eggs and too small for a goose or swan or turkey etc.....and it's white like a chicken egg. I don't think you could tell it apart in an egg line-up. It's gotta be a chicken egg. Just strange being found out in the middle of nowhere.

This would be one giant whipperwill.

OK.....I have water on the property....but I have never seen a wild duck lay an egg the size of a chicken egg....nor any I can think of that are white. No tame ducks here....maybe that is the egg your referring to? So....what kinda duck are you talking about? Aflac? ;)

This land is pretty remote...no easter egg hunts...unless the bears are hiding eggs.

The eggs my ducks lay are just slightly larger than AA chicken eggs... and they are white.

What kinda ducks Charlz?

Mostly Campbell Khaki but they have been crossed with black crested duck (not sure the exact breed) so some have 'poofers' on their head ;) (search for crested duck on google if you want to see a pic).
