Well, I bought the relatively small bullet and got my first Yanmar, an older
green painted flat panel front (71-75) YM2000 model. The 2-cylinder in-line
diesel is very strong and starts instantly. All fluids were clean, clear &
electrical, tranny, hydraulics, PTO work great. The price was right at $2300.
I do need brake linkages but that is not a biggie. Got an email into Hoye for
those parts. I do like that this tractor has a nice piece of railroad track welded on to the front bumper frame. Should help a little with the counterweight! Overall, not a bad tractor IMHO!

Thanks to mark777 and others for the fine recommendations & advice! Great guys!!!

Questions:
1. Hard to tell if my unit is a Vietnam reconditioned or just early Japanese model. It does have some rather interesting dark green (not lime/pea green I have seen) and yellow paint on the rims and green & yellow decals. HM says
975.5 but I am sure that might be 3975.5, or worse! Any good ways to check for reconditioned?

2. I need to locate a used tiller for this unit. Found one in northern MS, (I am in southern Louisiana) but that is just too far (450 miles!!!) Any dealers in LA, MS or TX have any decent prices on Yanmar used tillers? Unit I found was the 13xx and 14xx units for the tillers. Please advise & thanks!

Previous owner gave me all shop, service and owner manuals, so if anyone wants anything scanned or emailed, just let me know! I got most of my questions answered from the archives of this forum and other boards. Excellent topics & answers to questions that I would have had to ask!!!! :)

Hope you enjoy your YM. Had mine a little over a year and it is a work horse. Check w/ Oloh Farm Equipment 601-264-5820. Mike (owner) is honest and easy to work with. They have yanmar tillers and everything else you would need for a 2000. Located West of Hattiesburg.

That looks like a nice tractor, welcome to Yanmar ownership!

I don't think I'd worry about whether it's a recon or not, just used it and enjoy it, it's that old there's are bound to be things come up from time to time to be fixed.....

Gave em a call. They only carry new tillers (King Kutter) 4' @ 1175.00 and 5' @1375.00 -- little too much for me. Anyone else know anyone in LA/MS with used tillers?

Thanks!!!!

I must admit, I am curious about your manuals, as a green 2000 (or actually, just a 2000, as the later reds are technically a 2000A) differs in some critical aspects from the later "A" and "B" variants. Very few folks I have encountered have the parts book for the green 2000s, and I have never seen a shop or service manual for them.

Nothing wrong with the tractor, but if you order parts and don't have the correct parts book, a few of the parts you get will likely be wrong.

The color scheme is not OEM, but it doesn't document who did the repainting. Did you remove the headlights, or were they already gone?

saintroad,

After your detailed description of the tractor and it's condition, I don't believe (IMHO) it to be reconditioned. Someone obviously repainted it JD yellow and green (pretty good looking from here) and replaced hood decals. I tend to agree with Jagmandave...just use the heck out of it and enjoy.

Sorry, I don't have good tiller connections in LA-MS

Wayne,

I seem to recall that the plate or casting numbers were 2TR20AX...Is that early model green or later red? I was assuming it was red just for the lack of externally mounted headlights.....

The picture posted has the hood and front sheet metal of an early 2000. You can see the indented area where the headlight(s) would have been. Obviously only serial numbers will tell what series it is....or what series the engine is for that matter, as we have seen mix and match. We have more than once seen an engine OTHER than a 2TR20 variant on a 2000 chassis. Guess what happens when you ship the customer the engine parts they asked for for their "red 2000."

I like the paint job on your Tractor. That is a good looking tractor just get out there and play and have fun on it.

Very nice looking unit. I think it maybe an early compact-tractors.com unit?

There's a place in Franklinton, LA that sells yanmars. Don't know if they have used tillers.

Well, sure enough the manuals are rare and unique indeed. Definately early model manuals including shop manual for complete disassembly. I didn't ask where he got them, only mentioned he had them in a box at his office. Definatley nothing wrong with it, just wondering how to tell Vietkong refurb, but it does look alot like the early work from compact-tractors.com and in fact I believe the previous owner had some documentation with that URL on it, perhaps just parts ordering, but I will check.

Headlights were gone. No biggie --- just something to get wrapped around
or banged up, unless you like harvesting rice at night. HAHA...

Enjoy your tractor, it sure looks nice.

I have seen a couple of Yanmars painted JD green and yellow. I had figured people did it to make it look like a JD or because they liked the colors. Maybe one particular dealer was doing it at some time?

Thanks for the kind words and welcome. Truly appreciate all of the support and amazing experience and advice in the archives. I have learned a lot thus far.

I have never seen a Viet re-con job done in any other color than the original colors. I haven't seen the JD color scheme from a recon. That isn't to say they never have though. Good looking tractor, the 2000 is a great tractor. Take care of it and it will give you many years of service.

Homestead tractor up in BC was famous for the Green and Yellow paint job. Used to be all you could buy around here 10 years ago. That is the straightest old body style YM2000 I have ever seen. I have been looking for a clean one for myself because I like the lines of it but I haven’t come close to anything worth buying. Enjoy your machine and please don’t hit anything with it :)

Man, that sure is a fine looking tractor!.....Congratulations!............I think you will get your money's worth out of it........I could be wrong, but I don't think it has been reconditioned............I believe you said that the hour meter hasn't been rolled back.

I really do like that model's body style.....I think its unique!

The place in Franklinton, LA, (which is where I go sometimes to my Mahindra dealership), is Manning Enterprises (Buddy Manning).........I called him.......I have to admit, he was really nice to me.........I also have to admit, his prices were pretty good too.

He DOES sell used tillers.....BUT he is out of them and wont get anymore til' next year, along with the finishing mowers.

You might want to try Liberty Tractor in Liberty, Mississippi........Their number is (601) 657-8255............I don't know if they sell used tillers or not, but they do sell a lot of the gray market tractors.

I hope i've helped a little,

OK, I've watched absolute silliness posted for several weeks now. Do you have difficulty with the truth, memory, or both? Or is more than one person posting under this name? Now he's "really nice"? This really lends credibility to all your other posts.

Here is what you said about him on 8/30/06 on this THREAD right here in this forum:

As far as Manning Enterprises,

I wouldn't buy a Yanmar toy replica from him............I went there..................I think that he only gave a 30 day parts warranty ....................He was very cocky and arrogant towards me and my cousin that went in there..........He said some of the tractors were rebuilt, and some were not.............(not sure who done the labor)......They are reconditioned "as needed"...........I asked him what was the best he could do on the price and he said that he didn't have to sell the tractors because he owns the "whole shopping center right here"....................

From my experience, I would have to say NO, I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend Manning Enterprises................

All this took place back in February 05' when I bought my used Mahindra (Singleton Sales & Service on Hw10 in Franklinton---excellent, excellent people too, by the way)..............MATTER OF
FACT, thats how I found my Mahindra...............going to look at the Yanmars................

Travis R

I knew someone was going to ask that.............

Well, as far as I know, mine was "as needed" too.........

Now don't get me wrong, Manning's tractors looked pretty good, but a lot of the tires were dry rotted, had "low original" hours, but had a YM?? in the shop with low original hours that just had the engine rebuilt..............I do think that the tractors were original, but definitely not the grade "A" tractors you hear about.

But thats not the point..........If the man hadn't been such an *****, I would probably have bought from him.

Travis

Yeah, I too as a novice visitor at this point recall that someone was trashing Manning Enterprises when I searched the archives....thus I didn't contact them at all for the sales or parts.......now I see someone (didn't know it was the SAME person) is saying just the opposite....

Does seem strange...but thanks for the info... ;-)
