I got my 4035 about the same time and am up to nearly 300 hours. Mine has a few scuffs too, so don't feel bad. Agreed on the forks, they're one of the most useful tools to have.
On the "hint of diesel" you think may be leaking, check and see if you have the old style braided fuel lines. If so you're getting the smell of diesel coming from the return line where it goes to the tank. The 35 series of the era of ours had a known problem with the fuel lines that came from the factory. They came up with a replacement line that more closely resembles a high pressure line like for hydraulics.
Old is on the left, new is on the right.
When you have the bad/braided lines, on the return side it will leak a very small amount of diesel as it is returning to the tank. Here is where mine was leaking.
When it leaks on the pressure side, it doesn't leak fuel out of the lines, it leaks air into the fuel flow causing the engine to run slightly lean. It can cause issues when the KSB timer (cold start assist device) kicks off after running for 20 minutes and the tractor can stall if idling. It can cause the tractor to be hard or slow to start. Eventually when the leak is bad enough, it is unable to draw fuel from the tank and won't run at all.
If you have the braided lines as shown above, get them changed ASAP as they're known to be the cause of many issues.
