I have always loved garden tractors and mini tractors. I also have always loved mini dozer projects. This was my first time building a large scale mini dozer . It is just a static model but the whole time I was building it I was thinking about how I would do the second one to actually work. Every part was hand cut out of light metal .I have a small 5inch hand shear and i hand cut every part including every link , track pad and grouser. This was a very exciting project , going out to my little one car garage sized workshop everyday seeing a Cat D-11R coming to life. These first photos give a little idea of the steps. I have no lathe or milling machine or computerized plasma cutter.

Here is the last set of progress pics after paint and decals are applied . I figure it weighs about 1200 lbs.
I moved it around on 6- 6 inch hard rubber wheels. catbladewaldon.jpgcatcabwindowsinstalled.jpgcatd11done1.jpgcatdone3.jpgcatdone5.jpgcatdone10.jpgcatdone13.jpgcatdone15.jpgcatsidebeams.jpg

Phenomenal, looking at the projects you've posted it is obvious you are far more than just a hobbyist like most of us. How many hours do you think you have in them. Great work!

Waldon,
You will need one heck of a big sand box for that toy.. Like others have said, unbelievable workmanship.

What can I say, that hasn't been said... Awesome...

Heck..., I'd like to see a few pics of the Chessie, I'm assuming GP in the background. Pappy was a brakeman on the B&O/Chessie System/CSX for 42 years. Those things give me goosebumps just hearing them idle, let alone throttled up under a load..!!

I agree with all statements made..... truly awesome.
Did you have a set of drawings or did you do everything by eye?
It just seems to be so accurately scaled!
It truly looks perfect

Thanks everyone for the very kind comments. Although the dozer is non working the look of the end result was still pretty cool to see. It took me six months to build working 7 days a week. I thought about powering it but not being able to fit in the cab I chose not too. I also thought of RCing it . I still dream about making a mini working Cat dozer. I will share the train pics today. Thanks again
