My John Deere 318

I just purchased this tractor yesterday. Serial number M00318x317870. I'd like to know what year tractor this is so I can locate parts for it. The seal at the top of the steering column is leaking fluid. I have no idea what can or can not be replaced. Can I replace the seal or do I need to replace the whole steering column? I'm in the market for a Service Shop Manual, with parts illustrations, diagrams etc. and a Operators Manual. I'm very mechanically inclined and I like to repair everything on my own, right here in my yard. Any suggestions?

If you go to JDparts and look at the introduction of the 318 parts cat it will show a year breakdown. Yours should be a 1985, but the year is less important to getting the right part than the s/n.

FWIW, you'll want to get your engine model #'s also and deck#'s, there were a couple different Onan's in the 318's.
