Been picking at the trim in the house. Window trim and door trim. Door trim makes me realize I don’t know much about i stalling doors properly. Fortunately I still have to put some in so maybe I can do a better job with that.

That is the objective. I expect to sell some goats. And put a few into the freezer. Use them to help manage the land and hopefully reach a point where they begin to generate some income over time.
If things go well, we may expand or transition to some other animals. But its dictated by economics.

I make my own door jamb frames if i haven't bought a pre-hung door. I get better results if i join the top rail and side stiles using screws, nails always come apart. I cut rabbits on the top of the stiles so when you attach the rail it keeps the gap from showing.

I read all the comments from your YT videos and many seem to think the new puppy is to young to be put in with the goats full time right now ? Whats your plan for keeping Ayi warm when temps get colder ?

Hope you had a great Labor day week-end !

Labor day was good. Spent some of it doing chores and building a little A-frame goat shelter for the paddocks when we move them. Its the first iteration so depending on how it does, we will make some changes in future attempts. I’ve seen some pretty nice and expensive shelters out on you tube. My objective is to find a design that lasts and cost as little as possible and is acceptable to My wife. I think I just described every project that every guy ever does.
Yes lots of comments from people who think you need to keep the dog inside. I would venture to say most live in cities and have never dealt with a dog like this. If I had a larger barn, I would have her down at the barn in a run next to where the goats are. But I have what I have so during the day, we bring her up to the house. She hangs out here so she has shade and ice water and I do short training sessions with her on a leash and teaching basic commands. Then I take her down to the goats for a bit and then bring her back. If I just leave her with the goats too ling she wants to play and chase them. That is a very bad trait for a LGD. So we will just keep working at it. By the time it starts getting cold she will be twice her current weight. Right now she’s sleeping in hay. I’ll have to play it by ear. If we have some real cold weather hit, I’ll bring her into the house. It’s a case by case thing. These dogs are made for this. Good thick coat and seldom have issues with the cold. But she’s young so, just like yesterday where we let her inside for an hour because it was 98 degrees, she’s a puppy and we need to make sure she thrives.

All in all she has spent about 3 hours in that run we put up behind the shed. Its too hot to put her there during the day. Jefanna had to go to town one day while I was out so she went in the run when the sun had moved and there was shade. I was home in a couple hours. And Input her in the run last night while I was doing some in the pen and she kept running at the goats. Its just play to her but there are behaviors that cant be allowed.

Isn’t their “play” a form of herding?

Our Aussies do that to each other. Constantly going for the back legs.

Chasing the cat to get him into the corner…..and get him in the house.

They also do a lot of head butting.

We don’t have any livestock.
We just loved the breed

LGD and herding dogs are different. You need different behaviors out of them. If you see a herd that has both LGD and herding dogs all together, the herd will part when a herding dog walks thru. But the LGD walks thru almost as part of the herd. They ignore the LGD unless there is danger. Their only job is to alert in danger, bark to dissuade predators and if it comes to it, throw down and fight. They are usually very Mellow, lay around a lot. If socialized, they are great with kids but when the predators arrive the switch flips and they are ferocious. And as soon as the danger is passed, they are sweet and cuddly again.
