Labor day was good. Spent some of it doing chores and building a little A-frame goat shelter for the paddocks when we move them. Its the first iteration so depending on how it does, we will make some changes in future attempts. I’ve seen some pretty nice and expensive shelters out on you tube. My objective is to find a design that lasts and cost as little as possible and is acceptable to My wife. I think I just described every project that every guy ever does.
Yes lots of comments from people who think you need to keep the dog inside. I would venture to say most live in cities and have never dealt with a dog like this. If I had a larger barn, I would have her down at the barn in a run next to where the goats are. But I have what I have so during the day, we bring her up to the house. She hangs out here so she has shade and ice water and I do short training sessions with her on a leash and teaching basic commands. Then I take her down to the goats for a bit and then bring her back. If I just leave her with the goats too ling she wants to play and chase them. That is a very bad trait for a LGD. So we will just keep working at it. By the time it starts getting cold she will be twice her current weight. Right now she’s sleeping in hay. I’ll have to play it by ear. If we have some real cold weather hit, I’ll bring her into the house. It’s a case by case thing. These dogs are made for this. Good thick coat and seldom have issues with the cold. But she’s young so, just like yesterday where we let her inside for an hour because it was 98 degrees, she’s a puppy and we need to make sure she thrives.
