Yeah I did but was out of RTV so put it back together hoping it wouldn't leak because I finished everything else haha. I'll try the RTV.

Good call on the tank, yes was thinking it would disperse the heat more. I could set something between the metal and the tank. Gonna try the middle buster tonight and see what we can do.

Alright so I finally got to test this thing out! Took it to our hunting land and ran it pulling that middle buster and cultivator for about 3-4 hours. Temp never got above 180 so that is fixed! I did notice some sludge or oil residue/splatter on the hood coming out of the muffler. How do I tell if it's oil? Just sludge? Etc? Could running at 1500 RPM make it load up and do that? I ran at about 1800-2000 but driving it back to camp was at 1500 for a 20 min ride. Any ideas? It ran perfect the entire day. The muffler does need to be replaced, has a crack and is rusty.

The more I read on this is pointing to "slobber"....?

Yea that's deisel slobber. But that's usually from rain being in the muffler and getting soot in the water and blown out as you drive. There should not be that much fuEl I wouldn't think in the exhaust unless you had it loaded up a lot and it was rolling coal a lot.

If you weld, just wire wheel the whole thing and weld the crack and give it a coat of high temp paint.

I gotcha. I can weld so that is not a bad idea it's pretty rough inside though too. Ipulled the muffler. The exhaust manifold and muffler are both pretty messy. Before I worry about it being anything else should I just run it next time at around 2k the whole time instead and then see?

If it is not slobber, would it be oil? If it were oil and need rings wouldn't compression be low and also have blow by at the crankcase breather? I ask because there is zero blow by at the breather and I believe compression is good because it always fires the second I let go of the compression release.

There was also some "slobber" leaking between the manifold and muffler.

It must be over fueling. If rings were bad it would have blow by but also mist of the oil would probably burn. I would run it hard at 2000+ rpms with heavy doses of injector cleaner in the fuel for a tank to see if it persists.

Low rpm and low temperature can add to a slobber problem. Try higher rpms and see if it won't help. Cleaner also a good idea.

If it was mine I would be turning the exhaust/muffler forward. Just unbolt it and point it forward then whatever is going on then most of it will get blown out and not get stuck in and drain back down in the Muffler. Put some gas in the muffler to help loosen and clear all of the oil, sludge etc. out of the exhaust. I hit mine with the air and blew it out. That was right after I bought it come to think about it. Didn't have to turn mine but there was a lot of sludge come out but never had a problem since. That was 9-10 yrs. ago. If you turn it back up may want to drill a drain hole in it.

Hmm....well I appreciate the help. I ran it some today at 2200 RPM for a bit and it is def smoking a little and the closer I look to the crankcase vent tube at higher RPM's it DOES indeed have some blow by. So tell me what to do. I've come this far with this tractor now I want to make it right. Does it need new rings? With that it obviously gets a new head-gasket which is nice after all of the overheating issues. If I go that far into it for new rings what else should I have done while it is apart?

I will say that my oil level seems to not have changed at all though after running it for several hours??

Thanks!
