Or could my guage be reading too hot? Is there a certain way to run the wire??

Not a big fan of aftermarket gauges. Get a thermometer and open the Radiator cap and check it. No doubt then, I can look at my overflow bottle and check were the water level is. Cold I'm about 1/4" above the bottom line. And say when I'm finished mowing I always let my tractor cool down or idle for a while and I'm about I/4-1/8 from the top line. Depending on how hot it is outside. I can tell just by sticking my hand under the dash and can tell if it's runninng hot. If that Radiator has leaks just replace it. And for our area a water pump from Hoye is well worth the money.

Your looking at the radiator so you will have to be the judge or take it to a radiator shop and let them judge. You can see the price of a new one. RADIATOR - NEW!: Yanmar Tractor Parts

I think I would take a step at a time, see how the rebuilt or new radiator does and then go for the pump if still needed. :2cents:

All this dependent on a correct knowledge of whether it is actually running hot.

Understood and thanks for all the quick replies and help thus far! It def is, checked guage in a pot of water, and now radiator pin hole is getting a bit larger so it is shooting a tiny stream 3 feet out when around 220 degrees haha. I think I'll go with just a new radiator first and see if that fixes the issue. I cranked it cold, with the cap off, no bubbles in radiator so I believe head gasket is ok. I let it run like this for a couple of minutes and still no bubbles. The radiator is too far gone to out any money in so I don't mind springing for a new one. Good plan ya think? Start with that? Everything sound correct so far?

I'll add, I'm positive it was hot enough that there was no way I was gonna open that radiator cap! Again, the gauge was accurate on the stove.

Replace it. It's trash. I don't have money to throw away but your most likely be doing that trying to repair it. And then how long it lasts. If your planning on keeping it like a lot of do repair it to last..:2cents: I was just curious how much Hoye wanted for a new one. That's a really good price. No doubt about it I would be replacing it............

Cool, yes I plan on keeping this thing for the next 20 years! So I want it right! Only thing that worries me is how long it's been running hot and who before me ran it that way. I guess I'll replace it and hopefully be good!

May have never ran it long enough to get hot. Or used it that much and it just plain rusted out. It's supposed to use a low amount of AF. and it sat for years with NO! AF. No bubbles is a good sign or filling the overflow bottle. Your be surprised just how well built these things are so take care of it and it will be there when you need it.

I'm with those guys, if it has pin holes and looks bad just get a new one at this point. There a lot of money but I'd hate for you to spend $100+ to fix this one and it not last. Buy a new radiator it should be fine forever then. These have no T stat. For worry free service buy the water pump kit and be done with it.

Also don't forget a new radiator cap. There cheap and can cause headaches if not sealing. You got a steal on it and probably figured you would need to do some maintence and repairs. It clearly was neglected for years and the low amout of antifreeze these run lead to the corrosion you see.
