Ford 535 backhoe
Hello everyone, the name's Rod, and today, I'm officially a fledgling heavy equipment owner! So what do I got you ask? Why, I got myself an older Ford 535 backhoe, thank you for asking. It's a solid machine, but the seller isn't able to determine the year it was made. I'm hoping that someone here might be able to share some facts and figures about the 535.

No clue, but if nobody here knows anything, try Heavy Equipment Forums - Powered by vBulletin

Most of those guys are oporators and a few of them are either historians to some degree, or they have just been around heavy equipment forever.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to TBN.

Thanks Eddie. I'll post over there and see what comes up.

A call to a New Holland dealership may also do it.

I think I saw that machine, it is the one that was on escam, right?

The fresh paint on a used machine always makes me queasy.

I do hope it is a solid machine, if not you will soon find out the dark and evil side of backhoes!

www (dot) ytmag (dot) com also has a ford and backhoe forum geared more to old iron.

Thanks
Yea, it was on Fleabay, but the paint is far from fresh. He said it was painted about 12 years ago, and by the look of it, I could agree with that. The claim he made was the subdued color keeps the kids off it (construction yellow appeals to kids like moths to a flame?) and it wasn't as much of a distraction for the wife. I never thought I'd buy one off of there, but it was very close by, and I went to take a good look at it before bidding. To be honest, I didn't think I would have won, since it seems almost everything on there gets bid ridiculously high.
Anyhow, he did have a big binder full of info for me, 535 user manual, the loader & backhoe parts manuals, all past service and parts receipts, photos, servicing contacts, etc., so I have learned quite a bit from that. (still want to pick up the 535 parts manual) From some of the paperwork, it appears it was built between '75 and '78. Still not sure of the HP, and I have not fully confirmed the serial number yet. But yea, I hope I don't find too many gremlins. I know these can turn into money pits pretty quick if the right (or wrong) thing lets go.
I'll put a shout out on Yesterdays Tractors as well. I did get good advice there for an old Allis Chalmers backhoe that I ultimately walked away from.

For some reason Heavy Equipment Forums won't allow me to post.

I like the sound of the package you got. Maybe you won't get your tail feathers toasted (like I did!)

rreidnauer-- congratulations and welcome to TBN! My brother has a Case 550D that looks very similar to your Ford; as a commercial developer who has always done his own excavation & snow removal, he has SEVERAL large pieces of equipment (collects 'em?), but his Case is still his favorite. It's amazing to see what he can do with it, even with 2WD. The only option he got for it was an "extend-a-hoe" thing on the backhoe which extends its reach 6 or 8 feet. He's had it now for over 20 years (it was a 50th Anniversary Special Edition- silver)!

Hope it works out as well for you as his has for him!

Oops-- just found out brother's is a 580D, not a 550....

You have to respond to three or five post there before you are allowed to start a thread. If you cannot respond to a thread, it might be that you entered your sign in information wrong when you joined. They are very helpful there and the guys running it will reply to an email fairly quickly if you ask for help.

Here, you'll get guys who mostly have experience with farm tractors and that type of thing. Over there, you'll find there are guys with 30 and even 40 years experience with construction equipment, but never been on a CUT or ran a bush hog.

I'd try again.
