Kubota Gray L2601
Hello all, I am new to this forum. I hope to use it as a knowledgeable resource for my future Grey Kubota issues.

I inherited a L2601 with a D1301 engine from my late father. I am having trouble finding any information. I have found a Master Parts and Factory Assembly Order Manual for $55. I guess I am going to have to give in a buy it, but I'm not happy.

I am planning on changing the fluids, and I would like to know the capacities and what you guys use. I had planned on using Super Tech 15W40 oil and Super Tech 80W90 gear lube. Does anyone have any comments / advice.

That should be fairly similar to an L245/265/285 US model. Either a 15w40 or 10w30 diesel (C rated) oil will be fine. Are you sure about the gear oil instead of an anti wear 46 or 68 hydraulic oill?

Can't help you with your questions. Just wanted to welcome you to the forum and to say that you can find answers to all things tractor here.

I have been told that the L295 is the closest US equivalent, but I'm not sure. I am not sure about the gear oil. I have never done any type of maintenance on a tractor before. I will definitely have to give that a closer look.

Ok, I knew it was one of the early L series. I own an L285. The hydraulics and transmission on mine are one and the same. I use the $29/5 gallons TSC hydraulic fluid (pretty sure it's an AW46). With out checking I seem to remember mine takes roughly 8 quarts of motor oul, and 6-8 Gallons of hydraulic fluid.

This afternoon I'll poke around and see if I can find my manual to check those numbers.

These tiny tractors hold way more oil and hydraulic then you would think, I know when I changed hydraulic I had to switch catch buckets, and when I did the oil my regular catch bucket over ran (not a 5 gallon, maybe 1.5 gallon)

So you've got a $55 tractor and manual....what's not to be happy about?

After digging, I found the L295 capacities.

Oil - 6.4 Quarts (1.6 Gallons)
Transmission/Hydraulic Fluid - 27.5 Quarts (6.8 Gallons)
Antifreeze - 6.1 Quarts (1.5 Gallons)

I also think you are correct about the gear oil. From what I have seen everyone uses the UDT Transmission/Hydraulic Fluid. Not sure where I go the 80W90 from.

Recoveryhill:
You are correct. It is a cheap tractor. Unfortunately it isn't running at the moment. I think it has an electrical issue. Maybe a bad starter and a starter safety switch. I think I am going to have to rewire the whole thing. It was sitting outside for years, and all of the wiring is frayed. Should be fun. That's why I need the manual. Definitely don't want to get the wrong starter or switches.

For electronics you really only need power to your starter. There's no electronic fuel pump that I'm aware of and you could actually even jump start it without a working alternator. I have even taken my battery out with it running and put it on the charger. You do however need working glow plugs or at least mine does it doesn't start keeping them warm weather without preheating. Best of luck getting it running. Don't use starter fluid or ether, can damage engine.

Messericks has some very good free parts diagrams for the US models, really helped me with my brakes.
