I have a 5 yr old John Deere L188 22 hp B/S that just won't stay running. Darn I'm aggrivated! Carb's been apart 4 times, replaced fuel filter, fuel pump pumps, clean gas. Could it be electronic? There's a round thingie on the front side of the carb that has 2 small wires comming out. Any chance of that being bad?
My deere don't run like a deere!

The thingie is a fuel cutoff solenoid it stops the fuel flow when you shut off the engine, supposed to prevent the muffler backfire that happens sometimes. If it was bad your engine would not run.
I would check the fuel cap vent, the L series were noted for them plugging up with very small amounts of dust. A quick test is when your mower engine dies open the fuel cap and see if that fixes the problem. Clean the vent and you are good till the next time.
