Being the computer geek he is, he likely just wrote a little welcome script. Yeah, it's hokey, but on the other hand, it is a personal touch and I think he may have it time set to come on if no one else welcomes, his script does.
I'd say it's fine. It's M's way of adding his personal touch. Be it ever so....
