Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Well, Jerry, I hope I'm not in trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I had to pick up a grandson at school after football practice, then go to the nursing home to visit my mother, etc., so now I'm back and have taken the advice you Jerrys gave me. The first scan showed 155 bugs, so after removing them, I checked on their "update" and sure enough, there was one, so after downloading it, I scanned again and it came up with 20 more. So now I've got 175 quarantined. Then I ran Norton SystemWorks and it said there were 12 registry errors and "fixed" them. So now, I just got back online, received e-mail all right and so far only two pop-ups (including one while I was typing this). And as with a lot of software, the "manual" for Ad-aware doesn't quite match what I get on the screen /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I guess it's close; so don't know whether that's because they haven't updated their manual to match the newest edition, or whether what the manual shows is what you'd get if you were running a different version of Windows instead of this XP.

At least everything I've checked so far seems to be working, so thanks for the assistance.

Jerry,
3 Jerrys agree on Lavasoft Ad Aware /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Dick, does that mean I need both? I sometimes worry about compatibility problems when I keep adding programs to the computer, although I guess I've been lucky so far and haven't run into any serious problems.

Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Bird,
Glad that you caught them. Now delete them like Jerry said above. I run Lavasoft almost every day, if I am on the computer very much.

Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Jerry, I think the jury's still out on my problems. This darned thing just had a pop-up window that I tried to promptly close for "NetTurbo?" I think, then it promptly went to downloading, said download complete and went to an installation set-up screen, which I "cancelled" but now can't find what it downloaded. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Bird,

AdAware is good software, however in my opinion SpyBot Search and Destroy is better. Also free. Suggest you download SpyBot and run it behind AdAware to see what else it finds, betcha get some.

Spybot can be found at Tucows.com

Be sure to run the update feature before scanning.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Bird,
Do you use a pop-up stopper? I do and it seems to help somewhat.
Here's a free one. Oh Panicware that someone already mentioned /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Panic Ware

Re: My Computer\'s Gone Berserk!

Bird,
I'm with Jerry. Panicware is a good free pop-up stopper.
