My Best Nightmare

Sorta seems like a waste to me. Doesn't matter if you catch him if you can't pull him over or PIT him. One PIT maneuver with that and it would crumble. I saw NY went with Dodge Chargers. I just don't see the point in the high performance police cars unless you have some serious stretches of road with no traffic. I want Tru TV quite a bit and a lot of the high speed chases end because the guy running gets caught in traffic and tries not to slow down and wrecks out. A helicopter works better anyway.

In New York the police use cars like that which have been confiscated in drug operations. Perhaps it is a wise use of tax $$$'s.

Being as this is Michigan, it is likely a joint project between the state and GM. Could also involve a university. When I travel to Detroit I drive by the Michigan State Police driving training area and it is quite impressive. Sprinklers and all for rain simulation. They not only teach the driving but also accident reconstruction and analysis.

Also, the OEMs will prepare cars to show to police fleets. This may just be a show car to attract attention to their booth.

Definitely an eye catching car!

My first thought was that it was a drug confiscation as well. Even if it is, seems like it would be a "better use of tax dollars" to sell it at auction and buy two cruisers. Just my two cents, and I live in MI, with the economy being as terrible as it is here, I would think they should be looking for any reason to save money.

Interesting...

If you pull the exif data from the photo, it is copyrighted by General Motors. Also taken with a Canon 1Ds II camera, which is common for advertising work. I'm thinking it's a marketing image. The MSP emblem could have been put on with PhotoShop, as well as any other agency they wanted to appeal to.

This is a photoshop. The car is the new production version Zr1 Vette that will be a 2010 model. It has a supercharged 7.0L engine with a reported 700hp!!

Yeah, it even says it was created in Photoshop CS. See attachment for properties.

Around here, our troopers have new Charger SRT-8's and a few of the towns have one or two Charger's. With the 425hp 6.1l HEMI, there ain't a whole lot of vehicles that thing won't catch. Plus it's a 4-door sedan and can still be used like a typical cruiser/transport.

Our law enforcement has also swapped over to the Charger. Friends on the force tell me it was a cost issue more than a performance need.

They also commented on some early reliability issues with suspension and brakes.

It will be interesting to see how the reliability issue plays out.
