Why aren't they legal for road use?

Because for some stupid reason you can't get a license plate for the vehicle once it's tracked because it won't be considered a tractor anymore, it will fall in the same category as a SnoCat which aren't approved for road use except for emergencies. In theory I need a license plate for commercial snow removal even though I have noticed that some operators don't bother, but I have one. No plate = no commercial insurance.

I know many manufacturers do it, but lift ratings at pivot pin are useless to me and rather deceptive.

Dargo, I agree that the pivot pin ratings are not numbers you will be able to duplicate in practice, but it does provide a standard point for comparison. If they gave lift specs at 18" out from the pins, then they would also not be accurate because you don't know if you are using a bucket, pallet forks, or a bale spear. I wish manufacturers would continue to list the specs at the pivot pins and add a formula to give you the unloaded (nothing attached) lift at 24" forward of the FEL pivots. Then the FEL and 3PH hitch points could be compared easily.

Essentially what I'm saying is that the pivot point ratings are deceptive, but they do give a comparitive lift spec when looking at several loaders. Whatcha gonna do?
