Mr. BDHSFZ6, what articulating flail mower do you own?

It's a Maschio 180SE

The pic shows it on the L6060 but I also use it on the MX5800.

Doesn't cut quite as fast as the Brush Hog, but it does a better job of mulching. It's also much more versatile since it also cuts ditches, banks and vertically along the tree line.

I had a Woods BB600X. Bought it for small pines and brush. It was overkill and Heavy Duty for what I was doing. It was really too much for my New Holland TC40 but it turned it and worked. Gearbox was rated for 120 HP. See pic below to get an idea of how big and heavy it was. I set a big chainsaw lube container next to it to show how big it was.

View attachment 3492795I eventually sold it amd bought a Woods BB72X. Much better and cuts up to 2 inch. It is medium duty and handles everything I throw at it. Just make sure you are aware how heavy some of these units are and make sure you really need that capability.

They don’t look as heavy as they are when I have looked up the actual weight.

One other issue to consider is its weight.

My 700 lb Woods 72 in cutter is relatively easy to hook up the the 3 pt hitch. Sometimes I have to manhandle it using a heavy steel rod or a 2 x 4 to assist lining up with hitch pins.

I also have a much heavier 8 ft Bush Hog that weighs about 1700 lbs. It is not so easily maneuvered.

I work alone and at 81 had trouble aligning implements for hitching like the 7ft bush hog and swapping in/out the flail mower. I invested in "Jiffy Hitch" self-centering frames and housings which solved that problem. Not cheap but solid, well made. If interested & you can't find them in a search let me know.
