MX5100 Hood Latch

Anyone ever had problems with their hood latch? Been brush cutting some tall/seedy grass & need to clean the radiator screen every so often to keep the engine temp in normal range. Only way I can get the hood open is with a long flat-head screwdriver & prying the mechanism away from the pin. When the hood is finally up, latch seems to work fine - spring is taut & release lever operates smoothly; I worked it several times, lubed it up & dropped the hood - once again, though, the release won't open the hood. Any adjustments that can be made? Everything about this machine seems super-engineered ... but this thing has bugged me for 2 years now.

i have the opsit prob with my hoodlatch,i can open it but cant get it to latch closing it.we messed with the hoodlatch an put some more washers an a longer screw in it.an that seemed to fix the prob.but i havent opened it since then.
