Mx4700 broken fan belt

Anyone with a mx 4700 have a broken fan belt. Mine came apart with 30 hrs on it and of course it was at the back of a ranch out in bum $&@" Egypt. Had a buddy bring on from a dealer 200 miles away and it ain't even close to being long enough

I can't help with the size you need. However I keep a couple of link belts on hand for just that reason.

Thanks that's a smart idea keeping a link belt. I guess my real issue besides a belt breaking at 27 hrs is the fact that Kubota parts say the belt for that tractor is 2 sizes too small for my tractor. So its apparent that the parts book is wrong or I have a different size pulley, different motor, different alternator, etc than what is stock. I asked the parts guy at Ewald and he said he didn't have ability to research it but to call back and talk to a fellow in service. Is Kubota known for pulling stuff like the old Johnny Cash song of getting one piece at a time and just putting it together with what they have on the assembly line racks?

No, I have found them to be forthright and helpful. But, I have dealt with the same dealer for 20 years. The tractors and service have both been excellent. I have not had any warranty claims with any of them, nor required any repairs that were not self-inflicted. The design engineering on the ones I have owned have been well thought out.

When researching tractors, kubota reputation was excellent and the main driving force of buying one over the competition. That's why it's so frustrating to be dealing with this. It's actually a pretty puny problem but it makes me wonder what else isn't right. Will find out more tommorrow when I call the service department. Cheers

Talked with Brian in service yesterday. He was knowledgeable and helpful. He said he has seen 3 belts break in the last week on new 4700 and 5100's. He's thinking they got a bad run of belts so if you have a 4700 or 5100 you might want to look at yours. He has a call into Kubota technical for some answers. As for the new belt being the wrong size, the parts department sent out a belt for a geared 4700 which is 2 sizes smaller than for the hydrostat which I have. They didn't have any hydrostat belts in stock when mine broke but do now and are sending one out to me. One other note, if the fan belt breaks you only have a minute or two of running before you start seeing your water temp rise significantly. I got mine shut down before it reached 3/4 scale, but if you were not watching or letting it idle unattended it looks like it would get up into the red and do some damage pretty quick.

Not that it matters, but I wonder what could be different on the engine if the tractor was gear VS HST, that would change the belt length?

I just bought a new kubota mx4700 and the tachometer flex cable broke with only 5 hrs on the tractor. Has anyone had this problem.

Belts are belts! They may go 5 minutes or 50 years before they dry rot off! We have had no movemnet on them yet and it baffles me as to the different belts between hydro and gear but they do have different part numbers!

My M5100 hasn't had this problem with 50 hours. Have not broken a belt either. As a matter of fact - no problems.

Haven't had any problems with my tach cable but it sure makes me wonder about kubota quality control inspections on vendor items. Ewald sent the correct size fan belt but I ended up going down to NAPA and getting one of their gold label belts that fit that had the heat dissapation grooves in it. Don't want to chance another Kubota belt breaking. The temp gauge starts moving up real quick. If your on the tractor you will get the alternator light, but if you happen to not be on it, it looks like it would cook the engine in short order. Good luck, its pretty disappointing to have stuff like that break on your new tractor. Make you wonder what else isn't right.

Thanks on the welcome. From talking with my dealer it sounds like Kubota got a bad lot of belts. He had 3 or 4 come in a weeks time which he said he hadn't seen before especially on new tractors. Don't know what Kubota's policies are. Do they just take vendor items and slap them on during assembly or do they pull a few from each lot and test and inspect the item. Sounds like the former to me
