Must remove the hitch?

Stumbled back on this thread today and can't believe it's still going. Worse, TBNrs are actually getting angry at each other over something that never came close to being a law. Worse still, I'm out of popcorn.

Who is going to tell this guy to remove his hitch whenever he gets back on the road? :)

But his is already safety yellow. Which makes it ok. He tried to warn you.

Just a quick update. This thread actually made me think about the hitch on our minivan. We hardly ever tow anything, but both my wife and I bump our shins most every visit to Costco loading groceries. But for sheer convenience I left it in.

Well, I decided for safety to take it off. But when I do need it I am mostly renting a trailer, so if I put it in the garage where I'll never find it again, it won't be available when I do need it. So it needs to be stored inside the minivan.

Ever thought about having a 20 lb piece of metal flying around inside a car in an accident?

I think I may end up taking my chances with shin bumping. Having that hitch fly at my head is a much scarier thought.

It may fit where the jack and lug wrench go (worked on my wife's 2002 Caravan and works on her current vehicle too).

I still leave mine in the garage, but I do know where to find them. No way I'd leave one in the receiver when not towing, but a lot of people do.

Mine is stored in one of the side mounted tool boxes with a lot of other tools etc. The same one is used when moving the trailer with the tractor before hooking up to the truck.

Keep hearing "watch where you're walking"...Personally I don't spend my life walking around looking at my feet..Everyone I know that leaves the drawbar in has admitted that they are too lazy to remove them...I don't ask what else they are too lazy to do when hooking the trailer up because I'd rather not know.

Personally, I have 4 different drawbars for different trailers that I own. When I'm done towing, even for a few hours, the drawbars are removed and stored. I see no reason to leave them installed..Never have, never will.

Slam me all you want.

Not slamming you, but I don't think you need to look at your feet constantly while walking. I'm sure you would notice a huge puddle of oil under the back of a truck or a snow pile that would make the route impassable... all without looking at your feet.

I could care less if people take them out or leave them in. If I slam my shin into one, I say "dumbass" to myself and keep on going about my day. If someone wants to be courteous and take theirs out for my benefit, that is a kind gesture and I appreciate it, but I certainly don't expect it.
