MUST READ! Mahindra CRD Full Diagnostic Manual with Check Engine Codes

/ MUST READ! Mahindra CRD Full Diagnostic Manual with Check Engine Codes #61
Well same problem happened to me again 3 years later at 722 hours in my tractor. Curious if anyone has gotten their hands on the FES Diagnostic Tester V17.0 software? If not, off to the dealership, I go to get the Kos reset again.
I have been in communication with another fella about backing up my ECU once I get back from the dealership. He is suggesting using https://www.amazon.com/SM2-PRO-US-Standard-dongles/dp/B0FH4C37XD
If anyone has any other comments or questions, please contact me via: robinsonpowerstroke@gmail.com

I just stumbled across this link to a 361 page pdf for the Mahindra CRD Diagnostic Manual (Arjun Novo, Mahindra sub company)
http://kisandost.com/KisanMitraWeb/MarketBulletinView?moduleType=SubjectPartFile&FileName=203

I've only quickly browsed it but this appears to the mother of all Jackpots for Mahindra Owners.

Page 68 of the PDF starts the Diagnostic Code Manual
And will list all diagnostic codes.
The PDF is interactive, so you can click a topic and it will take you to that page, you can search, etc.
It tells you how to trouble shoot the error, what the causes are, etc.

Everyone should save this to their desktop immediately to have a hard copy.
It may not be your specific tractor, but i'm sure these codes are relatively universal.

Moderator should probably make this a sticky too if that's possible here.

Seriously this is what every single person has every asked for that has come here with problems.

I simply Googled what Jabonee reported in my thread for my check engine light "P1804 RAIL PRESSURE LIMITER OPEN" and this was the 4th link down with a full successful match.

I'm in shock....
This is legitimately a factory service technician manual with every single step...

***edit with addition:if anyone is unfamiliar; you can look up almost all of the mechanical diagrams for your Mahindra tractor & attachments on the Mahindra USA site under the Parts Catalog. Those diagrams, along with this manual should allow you to cover a large majority of what's going on in your tractor (if it's similar to the larger tractors like the one listed in this manual)
here's the link to the mahindra site parts catalog

I have the same exact issue. I have a p1804 pressure rail code set. The link for this Garuda code cheat sheet no longer works. Is it possible for you to email me a copy that you had saved? I would be forever grateful. If not, can you tell me what the P 1804 code cross referenced to? And if it led you to a fix. Thank you.

Did anyone save a copy of the manual mentioned early in this post? It's no longer available online. I'd be super grateful if someone has a copy they could email to me. Let me know. I'm stuck 3 hrs from a dealer and my tractor is running bad.

That is the diagnostic manual I would like to email to you. Unfortunately all the 1800 codes you will need to go to the dealer to get cleared. You need the FES Diagnostic Tester V17.0 software in order to clear all the 1800 codes.

I own 1533,1538 Tractors. This has been the main problem with both of them. Codes 1800 1801 1802 1803 1804 1805 1806 1807 Codes, These Codes are counter codes. This is just information that has been collected over the years of operating them. It may, or may not help.

These codes are Dealer only codes. Meaning the Dealer are the only ones that can reset them. It is suggested that these could be emission related codes. That’s why the dealer can only reset them. This is what i was told.

How they work or may work, theoretically, from the information searching.

The Ecu detects a fault, within its perimeters. Then this gets counted, then stored. How they possibly get tripped, Could be from multiple factors. Stalling Engine under load, reeving the engine, then putting Excessive load on engine with the (pto), Excessive start stop of engine. Not allowing the computer to fully boot up, just starting the tractor without the cluster sweep. Also Fuel/air restriction. It could be anything, these are just assumptions. But when the count goes over 50. The tractor is placed in Limp Mode and will have reduced power. This will then display the blinking mil light on the cluster. As the manual States.

If ODB Scanner is connected it will be only to read these codes, they are unable to remove the codes. Multiple scanners, from Launch, Autell, SnapON, and some with diesel functions. With no luck in clearing them.

Any of these codes, the machine will have to serviced from the dealer. The software and diagnostic tools is only available to them. It is not available for purchase.

The dealer will not sell the tools and diagnostic software for self-repair. It’s very frustrating, having to go through this process of, 1 take the tractor to the dealership, 2 Have a service call. Just for under 10 min of labour, with a laptop and click of a button.

When these tractors are in limp mode. They have reduced power, Hard Starting(when cold more),Excessive fuel consumption.

For Example the code 1801. After 50 counts. The tractor will go into limp mode along with a flashing indicator light on the cluster. When the code happens, the machine will have to be serviced at the dealership. They will be able to reset the counter. How to this prevent this error code from happening is unknown, with an average 300 to 400 hours of operating time triggering this error. Some Dealers will recommend fuel rail replacement, this averages in price of $1500 with parts and labour. They say the fuel rail is a not serviceable part and the whole thing needs to be replaced. Its 2 sensors and they can be purchased. This is a common problem with these tractors. Customer support is non-existent for this. When the dealer is asked about these error codes, It could be a software issue. They are unsure what causes the errors or refuse to acknowledge them. These tractors have had a few updates and recalls. Still have not been fixed. With the new software too.

From understanding and reading the service manual is that these codes are stored in the EPROM. When the dealer connects with gaurda adaptor tool (plug into machines odb) to it allows communication the ECU and Instrument Cluster and uses Fes Toole software to perform the services, such as resetting these counter codes. This service tool does lot. It allows more than just resetting codes. When reading the manual. There could be many reasons why they won’t give the software or sell the tool. One reason is it allows, resetting the hour meter and programming it to any time. This is one of the reasons they must have the tractor serviced by them.

IF they cared about their customers they would allow for this service to be performed in some sort of self-repair. Even if the fuel rail components were changed it still would need the dealer to reset the code once tripped. So self-diagnostics of this error is not possible to perform, too even know if these parts are functioning correctly. A fuel rail assembly was quoted over $1500 for labour and parts and reprogramming. Also they say that it is a complete unit, that is not true. The 2 sensors can be purchased. But they are hard to find. This is a dirty tactic, it is to bring a machine in that may need repair work when it does not. It may or may not be a coincidence, If looking at the operators manual for servicing it looks like this happens exactly when the tractor is scheduled for service.

This can be done Theoretically, and is only speculation;

An example, machine came in for a repair with EDC17C55 ecu that has a failure. The Failure was diagnosed in the control board of the ecu, one of the micro controllers that controls the injectors has shorted out. It has to be replaced. It is non-repairable. A new/used/salvaged/aftermaket Ecu was obtained, The cost of the EDC17C55 Ecu is $150-250apx. With the tool kit Full engineering (SM2 pro) and software (PmcFlash). Their was a backup up of the ecu, eprom and flash files, before it failed. Because a backup was made before the failure and the machine was working with no problems or errors, the files could be restored to the new ecu. Less then 15 Min process. With the tool, it gives the ability to perform this service, make a backup of ecu in good working condition, like backing up phone/computer/hardrives/ect at a good working state. In addition, If and when an ecu experiences an error code, it could be then restored too. Ecu's do fail, the electronic component’s inside fail, they become damaged, from heat, fatigue, water, short circuit, rodents chewing on wiring harness causing a electrical short. Or Fire Damage from a melting wiring harnesses. So having a backup is an option. To avoid costly repairs and downtime.

Backing up/Restoring an Ecu is easy. Find out what kind of Ecu/Make and Model. Search if it is possible to if the Ecu is able to be backed up. Searching is the best option. There are lots of tools in the automotive industry that can do this. These are specialized tools and are very easy that any enthusiast can use. These tools can be purchased for about $120apx (Sm2Pro Full engineering kit). These tools come with instructions/software and pictures, Find the Ecu, that is supported by the tool, follow the instructions. Additional searching may be required. Some even have videos and tutorials on how to do this service. For Example, They involve removing the ECU and then connecting the ecu to the tool, with its provided wiring harness (known as benching), and then running the software to perform the backup and restore. These tools can support over 100's of ecu’s and each have a set of their own instructions. There is risk of damaging the Ecu, If not done correctly so follow all instructions that are provided with the tools. If Ecu has been damaged, it is unlikely to be able to backup. Backup before a problem.

An option is to find a specialty auto shops the offer ecu repair. These shops have the tools and experience and will be able to perform the type of service.
