the video.... *shakes head NO* so much down force wind, pushing the crop down, whoops i got to close ground, there is a crop circle of crop on ground for good, heck you can see the mist of the pesticide, getting caught up within the wind currents created by copter, causing more pesticides getting blown away and being higher up in the air, vs down on the crop. a complete waste of time and cash in my opinion. and if i tried to use something like that, before i could even get a one pass along edge of field. i would have inspectors showing up with some fines in hand.

if the sprayers were mounted on a boom, and hung i don't know 10 maybe 20 feet below the unit. and some shielding to keep the wind currents from the blades from causing everything to go every were. ok. i will bite. but that... i want to run as fast i can away from it. ya ok it might be ok with some chemicals out there, that do not require a finer misting, and don't have as much wind drifting issues. but even then, i would still want to run away from a system like that. ya awesome to watch, but that is about all IMHO (in my humble opinion) perhaps i am wrong. with that said, if certain criteria were meet, and works, i would be interested to learn of the info.

Somewhere out there is a video with one of those spraying, and it is much more professionally flown than the example I posted.

Also, how does the "pilot" know the exact location of the far sides and end of the field?

You guys have to remember that it was not till the CAMERA got put on a RC airplane that the FAA got interested in all this. Keep that in the back of your mind. Now I don't know if it is idiots doing stupid things with them because of the camera, or idiots doing stupid things because you don't really have to fly these things, but really it comes down to this.

Personally I would think what the other poster talked about is more up the alley as to what these things would be good for. Those two shown in videos....crazy....I bet there is over $10k in those units.

I want one of those! If it has GPS you could program the course before take off and it would fly the pattern to do the spray job. Very neat.

I remember seeing a video a while back using a quad copter with FPV (first person view) and a video camera to inspect blades on wind turbines. They'd fly up and down the blades and shoot video to review after landing. If they saw any issues then a crew would ascend for a hands on inspection.

Police in Nova Scotia used an unmanned aerial system (UAS) equipped with surveillance camera to find a family lost in a wilderness area late Saturday. A couple and their 17-year-old daughter got disoriented after setting out on a hike about 4:30 p.m. and called police for help on a cellphone about 8:30 p.m. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) sent a UAS unit to the area and the trio was spotted by the UAS late Saturday near Topsail Lake just outside Dartmouth, NS.

No doubt they can and are being used for good. They will save millions of dollars in the future doing many kinds of tasks that either could not be done as easily or were far more costly (manned aerial survey). And They look to be very fun.

In many ways they are like a firearm.. they can be used for good, or they could be used for evil. And they will always be fun. Funny how that works, it is all about the guy behind the trigger/joystick.

, it is all about the guy behind the trigger/joystick.

Very much so.

They have been used in the states to find older folks that wonder off, Kids lost in the woods....the manpower saving is huge, the time saved is huge....you ask why don't you hear more about that.....simple it does not fit the media agenda.

But around the farm, hobby farm or even smaller property they would be very handy to check out the most simple things....and that is where I thought this forum would be interested in them.
