MULESKINNER\'S FIRST M7040 REPORT
I sat on the thing for 6 hours today grading a 40' X 100' pad on top of a small hill for a travel trailer. I had to build a 15' wide road up to the pad also. The ground was hard and rocky decomposed granite. I put 2500 gallons of water on it with my water truck first and let it soak in for about thirty minutes.
This tractor chopped the top of the hill off and had NO PROBLEM grading this project! I must say it is about 80% as good as the JD 210LE. Except for the weight difference and the fact that the JD is 80HP turbocharged with a torque converter, I think this unit is almost as good of a grading tractor.
I'm 90% satisfied with it. As I told my dealer, I would be 100% satisfied if it only had a torque converter. He said ALL OF THE DEALERS HAVE BEEN TELLING KUBOTA THIS FOR YEARS!!! He said if Kubota would , "He would be living in a very large home."
In fact the transmission in the New Holland U80 full size construction tractor is made by KUBOTA!!! And has a torque converter. Kubota holds the patent on the torque converter. Go figure!! Why in the **** they will not put it in the M series is beyond everyone.
Anyway, I noticed the FEL control speed is a bit slower than my L39, as the L39 has more GPM hydraulic flow. I can live with that!
Gentlemen this is a good unit and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a powerful Kubota brand grading tractor. I think this unit will make a better grading tractor than a M8540 or the M9540 because of their size. This tractor is the same length and width as the 80's Ford grading tractors which are a highly sought after grading tractor theses days.
The fit, finish and paint work on the tractor part made in Japan is superb! The FEL pieces made in Georgia leave a bit to be desired as far as the quality and care taken on the paint job. It took me two cans of Kubota orange spray paint to touch up the areas where there was NO PAINT and the areas that should have had two coats for proper coverage. Oh well I guess that is the difference in pride between Japaneese workers and the good ole USA folks!
I will post more reports as time goes on. I now have 10 hours on it. I took it easy on it today, as I'm not a fan of the "Break it in like you use it" therory. Press on!
