Mufflers

I have a 90s vintage Agway riding mower (I believe it was made by MTD), 12 hp B&S engine. Does anyone know of a better muffler for this (1" thread) than the ones sold at Lowes. HD, etc? They just don't seem to muffle very much....this thing is still so loud I need ear protectors when I mow.

I've never had, seen nor heard of a tractor or lawnmower (open station) where hearing protection was not required or at least warranted. Of course, there are a lot of things I'm unaware of, but I think excessive noise just the nature of the beast.

I'll try a lawnmower shop & see what they have.

Some mowers seem to be (fairly) quiet, you'd think someone could come up with a muffler for these things that actually muffles.
