Hmm.. not exactly your question here.. but I've used mufflers on my older tractors that were universal fit.. IE.. fit the gas or the diesel ver of the same tractor. The muffler onmy ford 5000 is like this.. IE.. fits the gasser.. or the diesel.. etc. .. not what i would call a compact tractor though.. uh.. more like a utility..

You mean there is a difference????
I don't think I have ever crossed that line, but swapping mufflers around from different models of the same fuel has been common in my lifetime.
What are the differences?

I don't know if there are or aren't. Like i say.. There are gas and diesel ver of many fords, and with underslund or vertical exhaust options.. lots of same mufflers get swapped around... I'm guessing it was the same on many brands.. etc..

Two years ago, I put universal car mufflers (the oval type) on my Case 530 diesel tractor and on my old Case gas tractor. Much cheaper and quieter than the originals and no problems so far.
