The wasps I'm referring to are red wasps of some sort, the body is dark red and they have yellow/orange legs with clear wings. Their nests are paper and usually not much bigger than a baseball, tho I have seen them as big as a dinner plate.
There are usually a small group of wasps that build a nest 5-6. I spray on the nest and get 3-4 of em instantly, then move back a little till they land somewhere and pick em off one at a time. The sprayer shoots at least 10ft so its easier to stay out of the "attack zone". They never fly more than 3ft after being hit. When we replace facia on our rentals, the soap offers genocidal results. Hornets are rare here because of the freezing winters. Bumble bees are plentiful however, and don't appreicate being bushogged... but that's another story.

Those are the ones I referred to as being dull brown or dull red/brn common paper wasps. They are fairly tame. The red wasp is bright--Kubota-- orange, jet black wings and is a hellish creature. J

We have been fighting them. Wasp spray and a broom.. When the paper builders build under the upper deck under the railing I get out the power washer. I blow out the nest and keep after the ones that fly around with the spray....
Last summer I was standing on a trail back in the woods watching the kid drive around on the ATV. He passed me and all of a sudden I was getting the crap stung out of me. The ground became alive and I left the scene yelling "God make a better runner".
I have dealt with Hornets before, used to have a couple of old nests hanging up in the basement by the fireplace. Wonderful pieces of work. However the wife re-decorated and gave them away.........
To this day if a wasp buzzes me the hair stands up on my neck.......... Tom

hmmm never seen any of those... and it doesn't sound like I want to.
We got plenty of them down in Central Texas.My wife kills them with a fly swatter.One day I went to start my weedeater and the engine would not turn over.Its 15ys old and I figured it finally came to its end.Dirt Dobbers(thats what we call em)had built a nest on the flywheel and it wouldn't turn over.I have to put tape over the ends of my air gun/hoses to keep them from filling it with mud.there ain't to many places they don't get in.They don't sting.

When the automatic choke quit working on my old '81 F250, I just went along for awhile pumping the accelerator when it was cold (didn't use the old truck very often), but then finally decided one day to fix it. Removed the air filter, found the filter itself was clean but the housing was full of mud dauber nests, then removed the mud dauber nest from the choke linkage and it worked just fine./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
