I put a new clutch and pilot bushing in and I have the service manuals and everything is adjusted correctly but when I push the cluth pedal in it grinds the gears like it's not disengaged. A car mechanic told me it's the pressure plate. Does anyone have an idea. My neighbor has a mt372 also and I checked his adjustments to mine and the manual and mine is good. Thanks for any info. Guess i'll be splitting it in half again lol.

If your getting pressure when you depress the pedal just like your neighbors tractor then it doesn't sound like a pressure plate. Did you make sure the clutch disk was installed facing the correct direction?

I did it last year but if I remember it would only fit one way. The pilot bushing came apart and messed up the end of the shaft a little. I filed them gently till the clutch would slide on and off easily.I had a hard time pulling the tractor apart because the shaft wouldnt come out of the clutch. I checked both ways and I think it had to go only one way. I can't remember which way it was tho. I do have pressure when I press the pedal down and it releases a bit but if i'm on the level the tractor will move slow even with the pedal down.Thanks.

do you have a bunch of slack in the linkage ?? By taking out the worn and elongated hole slack you really don't have a lot of linkage travel sometimes depending on where the return spring is located. Do you have any type of inspection hole,or inspection plate on the bottom so that you can watch the pressure plate as the clutch is pressed?? Did you clean the input shaft, making sure the disc slides back and forth on the teeth and make sure the throw out bearing is the same size [ over all length ]?? These are a few things to start you off to check to see if we can't get your clutch going. As to the disc being on backwards, the snout of the disc [the part that sticks up about an inch ]usually goes toward the pressure plate [ p.p ],with the flat side of the disc facing the flywheel. I think that if it was backwards the p.p wouldn't have pulled up flush with the flywheel,even using an impact wrench. Keep us posted on what you find.

No there isn't a lot of slack in the linkage. I mean there is some that needs to be there but not excessive. All there is as far as an inspection is a small hole in the housing with a bolt in it. I assume it's for inspection and or drainage. I'm home all week sick and my tractor is up at camp. I won't be back there for another week but i'll keep you posted as a figure it out. Thanks
