mt 16fd temp gauge not working

I am looking for an idea where to start.Could it be the sending unit or check connections.I may have pulled a wire lose when replacing the ignition switch,but i don't think so.Any advise is welcome.

take a test light.it is like a screwdriver with a point and a wire with a clip attach to the handle. there is a bulb in the handle.attach the clip to a ground and then touch the point on the sender unit.if the bulb lights the sender unit is defective.if it does not light check the connections.
