I am thinking about starting to do some mowing of larger lawns/fields this year. I am wondering what size finish mower would work with my tractor? Would I be able to use a larger batwing mower, or should I stick to a smaller 3-point mower?

I would think you could handle just about any mounted finish mowers on the market......what are the biggest, 7-8' or so and 1200lbs at most. Your 3-point lift capacity is around 3k lbs so you're fine here.

As for the traditional 15' batwing style mower, at 55 eng/46 PTO hp you are at the lower end on the power spectrum to run one. You can do it if the ground is okay and the ground cover isn't too thick.....I see highway mowing crews pulling them with 45-50 hp tractors but I probably wouldn't hitch that much load to my tractor. You might go with a smaller 12' single wing fold shredder (Bush Hog and Land Pride make them but they're not as common on the used market) or a rigid 10' model.
