Craftman DYS4500
Craftsman DYS4500 - 24hp-42" cut. While Mowing the left side dropped in a hole. The mower pulled out and then just cut off. No sputter, no nothing. I had recently had the ignition rewired because of an attempted theft, so I thought a wire came off. All was good. The motor turns over great, but the engine will not fire. The kill switches are good-replaced both coils-still no fire coming out of either spark plug and they are new-pumps gas without a problem- the fuse is good-solenoid is good-if I jump it, it still just turns over-starter is engaging and the flywheel is turning. "WOW" The other difference I found is, now I don't have to sit on the seat for the kill switch, I can stand beside the mower and the engine still turns over but will not fire or crank! Any body, please help!
Model # 917.288260 and a nice mower.

Welcome aboard!
Is there a low oil pressure cut-off on that model?
Wondering if your left side hole dip may have momentarily starved the pump and set that switch?

the starter spin with no seat tells me wireing has changes sine before the hole incedent.... and now a starting issue? hard to believe not related!

Thank You,

I don't know if there is a low oil pressure cut off. Embarrassed to say, I don't even know what that is! Wouldn't know how to find it and I read the owners manual, but it did not have anything in it about the cut off. Would it really be unusual for both coils to go bad at that exact time together?

Thank You,

Checked the starter. The engine turns over very good, but just will not fire. The seat thing is very odd. When I looked at it, someone before me had it closed and ducked taped really good.

Does this unit have a fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor main jet and is it getting power to run?

Yes it does a solenoid, but it has fire going to it and is pumping gas. When you turn the ignition on you can hear it come on. Mod.#917.288260 Ser.# 072108AO15579

Power going to the ignition module from the key switch

Have you pulled the bowl on the carb to make sure it is not plugged up or full of water?

Think most of the Craftsmen mowers are running magneto ignition so mag must be ungrounded with power to carb solenoid to run.
