Just built a house on 2.2 acre wooded lot and right now mow about 3/4 acre. It's not that smooth and has lots of rocks and fallen limbs so need something rugged. I want to slowly clear and add grass to about another acre. Right now I have a Troy Bilt Bronco (MTD). It still runs good, but the deck just gets beat to death. I've replaced it once and spindles once. After about a half year whith the new deck the bottom piece of metal that hold the mulching plug in (a pitiful piece of plastic) got torn off again. Looking for a definate upgrade for ruggedness.

Thanks - Rick

I don't know what your willing to spend, but a sub-compact tractor with a belly mower and FEL would be very rugged and handy on helping you clear the property.

Seems you are describing an area that is not lawn but needs mowing and cleanup. A walk behind DR mower will do the job well but at only 30 inches or so would be slow if you intend to mow frequently. Next step up would be a 20 something horsepower SCUT or CUT with a brush hog or flail mower. I cleared about four acres of similar land using a Kioti CK20 and a 48" brush hog. Lots of choices in that size range.

I might just look at renting a bushog or even a skid steer when I want to reclaim. I saw someone in another post recommend throw aways which I may consider when this one bites the dust.

Thanks Rick

Rent a tractor with a landscape rake and a plug areator and go to work. A weekend will make a big difference.

Sounds like you need a SCUT with some extra bolt on toys Uh, necessary equipment.

Let's see. This is where things get fun. Because we're spending someone else's money.

You did say that you've got a spare $25-$30K sitting in the bank, right? This is where you're supposed to tell us that you allotted that much from the home purchase for the maintenance of the Ponderosa.

Geez, I was afraid you were going to ask what I did when I bought and built. I couldn't afford the NH, JD, MF or Big Orange K price tags. I bought grey market and became the best of friends with my neighbor. The deisel mechanic that keeps all the city equipment running for our municipality.

Hey, I'd buy him a new shotgun for rabbit season, if I thought it would help keep my equipment running. The dealership mechanics get paid that much anyway and you still have to buy the salesman's trip to Bermuda this winter, as well, with your money.

A small SCUT, used of course, with an FEL and a belly mower would suit your needs nicely for some time to come. The bush hog, box blades and landscape rakes can wait for Christmas, Birthday's and Father's Days.

Don't forget to get 4WD. It's a must with an FEL. It's kind of like driving a 1 ton dually diesel Ford pick up in New York City. "Yeah, you can drive it but it's just not much use to you cause you can't get around very well."
