Moving to the Farm

Congratulations on your move, looks like you will have some beautiful scenery. Like some others, I lived in a house trailer while our house was being built.

You have a good looking location. And those trees will grow fast. When we built ten years ago, our longleaf pines were about knee high. Now they are already making pine cones, and are almost as tall as the house.

I was thinking bowling alley. Not really LOL, an equipment shed maybe. You can play year-around basketball in an equipment shed.

Might have to pour the slab a bit wider than needed for the trailer for part of the length anyways.

Nice location. We pretty much lost a whole seasons growth last year with an early spring an late hard frost. This year has been pretty good. By the time we are ready to build I think we should have some good sized trees.

One of the guys we are getting an estimate from has used helical piers before. Screw them into the ground and shim of that. We need to see if the county allows them. If the are cheaper and easier to remove we may go that route.

Glad to hear you are going to live your dream, that is when most people are happier when they go after and live their dream. I too have bought my land and am slowly building my bare 40 acres into a farm. I retire in two years then I will move from the city of Chicago to the country in Iowa. I have even created a blog about it to journal my progress. You might think about doing the same. Keep us all up to date on your progress.

Good luck

I actually started a blog almost a year ago. Lots of this will be out on there, but I have eclectic interests so the blog encompassing anything and everything that strikes my fancy in life. What is your blog?

Talk to the county about the frost line in your area. You need a footing that is below frost line. That may be several feet deep in your area. You want your mh to be surrounded by a foundation style wall, or your drains will freeze.
