Moving it all

Looking for ideas on the most efficient way to move All my stuff from OK to VT.

As I have 15 ("where did they all come from?" She asks) implements and a L3301 with loader, it all won't fit on my 20ft trailer.
Tractor has to be first to unload implements. I can borrow a friend's tractor to load the implements.

Right now, the best I've come up with is to rent a big uhaul with their car trailer. Put the Kubota on it and household goods in truck. And then fly back to get my truck,trailer, and implements and drive out.

Open to any ideas. I have to do this alone as wife will be tied up.

Sell some of the implements, then upgrade after you have moved and know what your new needs are.

All seriousness, I think selling and repurchase gradually may be a cheaper option.

When my folks retired and moved from Iowa to Arizona, they rented a 10' U-Hall trailer. The stuff that didn't fit in the trailer fit nicely into his back pocket.

Auctions before and garage sales after moving are the easiest way to move long distances.

Why not call what will be your new Kubota dealer up there and ask if they would help unload?
Then you can make a short run from the new house to the new dealer to put the implements on to the trailer.
If you need more space, perhaps load them into the box truck first and unload last.
I might also see about renting a Penske or Rider truck rather than a uhaul truck.
You might also look into a ABF trailer. That is a a 28 foot semi trailer that you load and they move to your destination. They charge you by the foot that you use (in 4' increments), so if you need less than 28 feet, you pay less).

Aaron, that ABF is the option I'm leaning toward right now. I called them and it seems like a decent deal.

I don't mind telling you guys.

They quoted me 3500 roughly which matched what they told someone else I asked who had a trailer in his yard.

3 business days to load(weekends don't count) 6 days to move 1500 miles. 3 business days to unload (also holidays and weekends don't count).

Uhaul 26 ft looks like 1000. And about 500 in gas. Plus 3 days hotels and meals.

I flew to Dallas, purchased a F350, drove back through Little Rock, purchased a CL 30' gooseneck flatbed, purchased a scraper and Killifer blade in LR, and drove them home to Lexington KY.

I needed the truck, wanted the scraper, and decided I liked the blade. The GN trailer was a necessity that I can sell here, should I decide.

Perhaps something similar would be worthwhile. Buy a used LONG trailer, load it up, head to Maine, and turn around and sell it there.

Double check your gas on the Uhaul 26. I just rented one this past weekend to haul 3600 lbs of concrete and 400' of chain link fence posts, rails and chain link rolls. Its a big gas engine, not a diesel. Took 9 gallons to go 54 miles. Plus the truck only holds 7500lbs and only tows 7500 lbs. The truck rode very hard, bouncing all over the place on local roads, no arm rests for the driver and I decided I would never go long distance in one!

ABF is fine but a couple of caveats. Make absolutely sure that they will go to the new address. They do not always and in my case I had to rent a box truck and unload my "stuff" at their terminal to transfer it to my new address. Read that load at "A", move to terminal, unload and reload the move to "B". Yes, it was not fun.

ABF rents floor space. Your best bet is to fill the trailer, else, you put up a temporary bulkhead and something else is put in there to fill out the trailer.

I have rented UHAUL and the truck had brake issues big time. Ryder depending on the terminal has shall we say less than stellar maintenance? I go with Penske.

Plus the time and expense of a flight back and driving up a second time.

You should be able to get a flatbed semi to haul it for around $2 a loaded mile. When you figure in time, gas, motel stays, etc that isn’t a bad option.

If you go that route, you could rent a box truck and put your stuff into that using that tow your pick up on your trailer behind it.

Not sure what kind of attachments we are talking about. $3,500 seems like you could do a lot of upgrades to equip when you get to your destination if you sold and repurchased.

Might try Bellevance Trucking, they run coast to coast flatbeds and are based out Barre VT, the primarily haul granite memorials, so I think they're often looking for loads on the way back

Take a look at uship.com. You give them the size of the load and the dates and they post it for the truckers to read. And hopefully connect the client with the driver. The way it works is the drivers hate to haul empty. So he finds a load to haul back.

Do you have any uses for a sea container at the new location? buy a 40ft, load it all up, and ship it!

Or figure out what could fit on your existing trailer (or a trailer that you could tow) and sell off the rest.

When I moved from Virginia to California I put the tractor and implements on a trailer and towed it out with the pickup. Then flew back to Virginia, rented a big diesel Penske box truck, and put the household stuff in that. Drove it out to California. The truck was brand new and drove like a dream. Researched every way to do it and that was the best I could come up with. What didn't fit in the box truck was sold or given to local thrift stores.
