Moving a propane tank

Well, then you should learn more about a situation, BEFORE you comment on it.

When I moved the tank in the pict., I had TWO certified tank movers from the gas company doing all the hooking and unhooking.

I used my tractor so they didn't have to drive through a soft spot with their truck.

I have my doubts the lift loops on that tank are rated for a tank with product in it.

Yeah, I'd wonder about that as well. I also wouldn't rely on my gas company guys to guide me. I'll let common sense do that. If I can find mine.....

First of all, the tank was empty, secondly that's above my pay grade to know the rating.

First you state a certified guy should be present, then after I tell you there was TWO, you imply that they didn't know what they were doing.

Bottom line is, one guy had been working in the propane field for more than 40 years, the other 15 +, so I'll put MY money on their knowledge of what was done.

But as always, someone on the net who "wasn't there", always knows better! lol

Moving it with straps or a chain is the RIGHT way to move one!

MY propane supplier said his empty tank was about 1500 pounds...

I also moved one with 275 gallons of propane in it...

I was thinking the one pictured had 275 gallons of propane in it. But if you picked that one from the lift eyes my comment applies to that. Additionally:

Also, slings or hooks, the tank will swing back and forward as you move which could contact the front of the tractor. And no, I'm not wild about moving any amount of weight any distance with the FEL or forks raised that high. The trailer they brought mine in one was sort of like a log arch type thing where it was supported in multiple directions.

That looks like 1,175 Lbs to me without the tank.

As for tank weight, I take it there are different grades? This shows as light as 871 lbs ( Propane Tank Dimensions and Measurements ) while this one lists 1,062 ( 5 Gallon Above Ground Propane Tank ) and others go closer to 1,200.
