Mounting a 8.5' snow plow on a SSQA plate

There. I like to think that this is my own innovation.

That is an Eight Foot "Frink" blade. Also a $150.00 auction find. It has a trip edge that I am having trouble with. The edge trips too easily and then the machine (Kubota R510 wheel loader) just slides sideways if there is ice under the snow. Most annoying. I have chnaged some of the springs but have more to do. A real PITA![

Bradbilt, I'll take a pic of mine today if i get a chance, I have a chain as stated like others for float but I also have a sort of "tube" with a spring at the end, when I apply tilt on my blade, the spring will now catch on a plate i made, causing down pressure for back dragging.

I think I understand what you are saying but pics are great

I mounted my 7.5' PA blade to a 1/2" QA plate. 5/16 or 3/8 would probably have been OK but I like overkill. I don't use a chain but lower loader arms till blade shoes just touch then plow. Cutting edge on my plow is spring loaded and will trip if solid object is hit. PA cylinders are connected to a cushion relief valve in case an object hit is higher than the cutting edge.
I can use down pressure to back drag but usually the weight of the plow and loader arms in float mode is enough for back dragging. Also have a pusher box for a couple parking lots I plow.

I would of taken either a Western or Fisher plow but no Meyers. I found a Western lat last season for $200, so that is what I have. I would be interested to see your setup.

I have a truck plow mounted to a SSQA plate but with a difference. I built a frame to mount the cylinders as far back as possible rear of the plate. I have never liked how far out most tractor mounted blades are. With the loader and snow blower, that is already a very long unit, and now a plow sticking way out the front.

I tried uploading a picture of what I am talking about, but it simply would not work.

If I am picturing you setup correctly, the A frame actually goes under the quick attach?

I was concerned about a plow sticking way out too. Mine is only 24" from the back of the QA plate to the pivot pin. Full PA left or right gives me about 4-5" between the blade and QA plate. Any further back and it would come close to hitting.

Bradbilt, my plow was an old Diamond brand plow. Here's a link to my build.

I know you said you can't use one but I just added a pic of my snow pusher.

Thanks George. I didn't even think about shortening the A-frame. That would make it even easier

Ok, I am back at this again between 9 other projects. I am pretty sure I am going to order the 1/2" plate.

For the lot I am going to use a chain.

And for down pressure to back blade I will have a bump stop to hold press down if the roll the "bucket" far enough down.

Now just to find a cheap 1/2 plate.

And where should I be looking for a relief valve as to no brake the plow If I hit something?

Here is my setup.
9' Western snow plow using a 5/16" QA plate.
Solid mounted, no chain (works fine for me, I never float the FEL, I simply set the loader down till it touch's the ground and go)
The A frames goes under the loader arms to keep the blade closer to the loader

I went to few auctions this summer, in the hopes of scoring a beat up old pickup truck snow plow but no dice. Still, I'm educating myself on your folks' setup and so far it's been great stuff!

After having to use the tractor today to push 24" of snow since the pickup was a bit overwhelmed.

I realized the tractor is MUCH better suited to push snow. But the bucket sure limits what can be done.

I have the 1/2" SSQA plate and the fusion valve. Now I just need to get my ***** in gear and get it all assembled
