I recently purchased a Moultrie M-880 game camera which advertised up to 8 Mp resolution
photos. Even though I have the resolution set to 8 Mp, it only takes 4 Mp resolution
photos (2688 x 1512), instead of the 3140 x 2160 shown in the specifications for 8 Mp.

Has anyone else on the forum experienced this with the Moultrie M-880?

I bought this model two months ago. I don't have the problem you describe but I do have a problem which surfaced a couple of days ago. I have it set to shoot video and recently there is a loud buzzing in the audio tracks which gets louder with each passing second as the film rolls. I emailed them and they asked me to send them one of the videos. Waiting to hear back.

I haven't tried mine in the video mode yet, so can't comment on audio track noise.

I did discover that when Multi-Shot in fast burst mode (2, 3 or 4 shot), image resolution
remains at 4 Mp, even though I have 8 Mp selected. With Multi-shot on in standard speed (2 or 3 shot),
or with Multi-shot OFF, the resolution will be at 8 Mp if that resolution is selected.

Let us know how you make out with the noise problem.

Unfortunately a large number of these cheap cameras use low quality and low resolution one or two megapixel image sensors then use software to up-convert the image to 4 or 8 or 16+ megapixels and they lie on the packaging about the device capabilities.

If you bought your camera on Amazon and it was fulfilled by amazon send it back for a refund due to fake advertising. Stop rewarding these knock off sellers.

And that's why I'm either buying a cellular cam or the cheapest Tasco I can get. I have actualy had less issues with the cheap walmart Tasco cameras vs spypoint, stealth cam, moultree or the cheap no name cameras off Amazon.

This is actually pretty common with trail cameras from that era. Many of them use a lower native sensor (often around 4 MP) and then upscale the image in-camera to reach the advertised higher resolution. So even when set to 8 MP, the camera may still be capturing at 4 MP and interpolating the rest.

The giveaway is exactly what you’re seeing — the file dimensions don’t match true 8 MP. It’s not usually a defect, just how the manufacturer specs it. Image quality between the “4 MP” and “8 MP” settings is often very similar in real-world use.
