More rear work lights

I put two hoobs 3 x 5 flood lights on my new 4300 and still made a place for my tiltmeter. 1/8 x 2 x 2 x 3 1/2 in angle iron was the ticket for me. No new holes in ROPS.

Re: More rear work lights

DDT, welcome. I hope you enjoy your new tractor. I've got a question I have to ask, is that the way you want your tilt meter to read front to rear, instead of side to side?

Re: More rear work lights

Yes I need two tiltmeter's. There is a big one in front of the sterring wheel for side tilt, and the other one is for front to back tilt. I do alot of lanscapeing so I'm always makeing water run some where else (away from house and buildings). I go to the top side and drive very slow and wacth the front to back to see if water will run right and this also helps get the high and low spots found so they can be corrected. They also work great for dressing up a pond dam, since you need it level both ways.

Re: More rear work lights

Yea, I like the idea about reading grade with it. Is that the 7489? The one that's calibrated to read a 3 to 1 pitch as 20 degrees.

Re: More rear work lights

DDT,
How did you wire up the lights? I was also going to just use the hobbs light on the back of mine. I thought $40 from jd for just one rear light was too much.

Re: More rear work lights

Richard, I have used the same light on my 855. but since they can't get them I went to JD and they had them for $19.21 each plus tax. I used the factory wires at the bottom of the rops. It took longger to make the brackets than any thing else.
If I remember right a 3 to 1 slope is 20 degree's

Re: More rear work lights

DDT,

I wouldn't bet a plug nickel on this one but, I always thought that Grade was the rate of rise of the road bed i.e the change in vertical rise divided by the change in horizontal run. If this is true then a three foot run and 1 ft rise is ~ 18 1/2 degrees. If grade is defined as rate of rise in distance traveled then 3 ft traveled with a 1 ft rise is just a tad under 20 degrees.
A 5% grade on a higway is a steep grade and no matter which way you define it they are the same to the third decimal point. The sin is equal to the tan within 0.4% for angles less than 5 degrees.

TWINKLE_TOES,
Becareful!!! you might teach me somthing. I guess I don't know nothing about about grade, but since I build cabinets for a living I'll stick to degree's. at least I know what that is. Thanks for the education.

Dana,
Becareful!!! you might teach me somthing

I would have to know something to do that. On this one I am really not sure which way grade is defined. I bet someone will make this straight.

But now to the important stuff, cabinets. Do you know anyplace to get rough 5/4, 1/4 sawn white oak. I bought a whole bunch 20 years ago from an add in Fine Woodworking. It came from a veneer mill in Cockyville, Maryland. I don't have enough left to build a toilet seat, not that I would.

<<<The sin is equal to the tan within 0.4% for angles less than 5 degrees. >>>

I suppose I might be more likely to sin if there was something tan anywhere near the dangle...and I don't have ANY degrees.

/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif ...Did I say that??

Re: More rear work lights

TWINKLE_TOES,
I can see if I can find some, But how many BF do you want?
There is alot of White Oak in my area. When I need some I get it locally miled and dryed. DDT

Re: More rear work lights

DDT,

Last time I purchased about 8,000 bd ft and had it kilm dried in Maryland, then shipped here. I will mill it myself.

Just for the sake of an estimate lets say 1000 bd ft. I'm thinking cabinet grade stuff and quarter sawn is a must.

If you can give me a contact then you can get out of the loop. Thanks in advance.

Re: More rear work lights

Twinkle Toes,

I may have a contact for quarter sawn oak down here in Georgia. Is that farther away from you than you want to deal with? I know shipping can add to much to the cost. Also, do you want red oak or white? I'll check with my supplier next time I am out that way.

Re: More rear work lights

Twinkle Toes,

Just reread the other post and see that it is white oak you want. I'll check.

Re: More rear work lights

Mark,
How wide can you get the 1/4 sawn white oak boards in? I sometimes need wide boards for antique funr. repair.
