Good to see the fellow was wearing his seatbelt.

What a stunt, and in 2007...Wish it had closed captioning to tell what the facts were to do it? Whom engineered the tower? Mighty tough machine..

Very interesting to see... I have spent some time in Vienna and was surprised that I could still understand what the announcer was saying...

Not so sure I would have been as willing to stand where the announcer was during the climb.

That operator must have nerves of steel

I thought it looked familiar. JOHNTHOMAS inserted this thread 11-02-2011--titled "Probably made by Kubota".

I found 2 vids on Youtube and they both are scarey.

There are so many machine loading vids that I could spend hours watching.

Several videos of that on Youtube. It appears that he had some kind of a sliding bolt to lock the arm and or tracks in place when moving up.
I would guess that the tower was engineered by Liebherr and the stunt was a joint venture between Liebherr and Wetten, dass..?.
Liebherr people were frequently visible when it was being built, all of the machines there at the end (the climbing excavator and the 4 hold down machines) were also made by Liebherr.

yes, you could see the locking bolt, but i definitely would not stand onder the rig. The spinning tracks was the great final moment. That operator was really confident...A good show for a nice piece of equipment.

kinda makes using the FEL and BH in the mud small potatoes compared to this...
