^^^ Ouch!

I was surprised in the construction ledgers of various jobs I reviewed a line item for beer.

Seems an employer that doesn't provide beer to the crew is not the norm... at least in the trades in Austria.

That is a long tradition. It is not only beer it is also food. The quality of food required depended on the level of skill for particular job. In Czech republic I am originally from many people build houses DIY with help of family and friends. There were certain steps in the construction that had to be hired out though. In example facade plaster. There were specialists that would finish a house over single weekend. They would show up one afternoon to see the house and tell the builder how many helpers, wheelbarrows, mixers, plaster mix etc they will need etc. They would come Saturday morning and check the food. If it was hot dogs they would say you are cheap and leave. It had to be at least home made goulash, pork chops and similar.

Just one question WHY?

Nothing I saw surprised me. A special designed mast that has places for the excavator's plate and frame latches. What else could be expected? I don't get it, they must have way to much time on there hands over there.

Did you watch the video?

A failure in the boom/stick or loader hydraulics will make that thing come crashing down from height, FAST.

Im going to assume that the lines are checked, but there is still the possibility of failure between the cylinder and the check. The cylinders appear to be the standard Cat cylinders .

Then there is the whole balancing on the backhoe bucket to load. Or the possibility of Pin failure. Its not a real safe system IMHO.

Would it end in a "OMG hes dead" accident, not likely if hes wearing his seatbelt... but it sure wont end well for his underwear.

There are much safer options like this one from Brandt.

I'm sure the cylinders are checked. Even if they are not it won't drop that fast.

Pin failure? I guess it could happen but a 747 could fall out of the sky and hit ya too.

Show casing the line on International Television... I would say it is 100% PR.

I know it made a difference with the Kachelofen installer and helper...

I told him he could order from the Gasthaus menu and have the meals brought to the job.

Most multi-day installs require the customer to pay a per-diem for food and lodging...

Everyone told me there was no way I could get the job done in the 10 days I had remaining... well, I did and it came out great... even paying the local tavern bill.
