I have to go to town tomorrow and am looking forward to lunch at Shah's Mongolian BBQ. In the '90's, it was my ritual to go to the Golden Camel in Torrance Ca for lunch every sunday, was the highlight of the week.
There are three of the Mongolian restaurants in Lou. that I know of and of the two that I have tried, Shah's is the best. I know that from the name, it doesn't sound too appetizing, but if you haven't, you should give it a try. They have directions above the food counter, but I've come up with my own that I like that is hotter than the standard recipes. Anyone else like this kind of food?

P.S. I would post the recipe here, but then I'd have to kill all of you.:laughing:

jlsmith - You thinking of Khan's Mongolian Barbecue? There are three of them around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area now. Used to hit them a lot when I lived in the area. Excellent food. And really, if you don't like what's in it, it's your own fault! :licking:

Yea thats the name of the place. I love that food and wish i had a place close to me to get some.
I was there for 3months during the winter and couldnt get enough. I did the fiber-ring around both cities and hooked all the banks and big buisness together. Boy was it cold!

I've never been to Golden Camel in Torrance but there's a pretty good one in Mission Viejo that I got to every couple of months. Given the choice, though, I'd go for Korean BBQ over Mongolian. :D

Korean BBQ sounds interesting, is it set up similar to Mongolian? The Golden Camel, is just down Torrrance Blvd from the BIG mall and was run by a little oriental couple and they really made us feel welcome, when we'd leave, the little lady would bring us a paper bag with the biscuits and almond cookies to take with us. I think about them often and wonder if they're still there. The Mongolian in Riverside is awesome too.

The first time I ever heard of Mongolian BBQ was when we had some neighbors who had lived in the Phillipines when he was in the Air Force OSI and they used to do the Mongolian BBQ every fourth of July. Of course that was about 30 years ago. It was really good. But now we have several Chinese Buffet restaurants in the area that also have the Mongolian grill or BBQ, but I don't remember just what we used to include at the neighbors' place. So the only time I've tried the Mongolian, it wasn't as good (to me) as just the Chinese Buffet.

I was fooled once by the Chinese Buffet/Mongolian and it was a big disappointment, nothing like Mongolian Grill.

Thats kinda what i was thinking. Its NOT the same.

There's a few good Mongolian Grills in the greater Sacramento area. Only one is close enough for lunch; it has always been good. Used to go frequently, now just do not go out as much. Was spending too much on lunch. Well, and too much was sticking around my waist

There are a couple of excellent Korean BBQ places nearby. But they are too far for lunch, and in the opposite direct of home... Just don't get down the hill after work very much.
