1) Are there rules for removing a post , or do they vary from moderator to moderator

2) if and when a post is removed, does the moderator who removes the post
send a pm to the member who's post he is removing - explaining or
highlighting the offending words, if not, WHYNOT

Buck,
If you have a problem with a post, there is a little red triangle on left of each post. If you click it a box comes up where in you can state your problem with the post. It is automatically sent to all moderators.

1) Yes, Buck, there are rules established by the site owner.

2) When I remove a post, I send a PM to the member who's post I'm removing and tell him why I removed it. Of course, if there are several responses to that post, they get removed along with the post they were responding to and those members usually do not receive a PM.

And lastly, we usually do not discuss moderating policies or particular actions or individuals in the discussion forums. If you have questions, you can always send a PM to any of the moderators, and if you have disagreements and want to go to the top for the final word and decision, then send a PM to Muhammad.

For those members who didn't already know it, the moderators are simply member volunteers who were asked to assist with the moderating. We were given guidelines (rules, if you prefer) by Muhammad to use in doing the job. But we are not employees, have no financial interest in Tractorbynet, and have no administrative or rule making authority.

I have tried that triangle, on two posts,
those posts are still standing, (the "victims" were both newbies, on their first post) pm me and Ill give you the link to those posts, you can judge for yourself if they deserved that kind of reply

Eight posts from seven different users were removed from that thread this morning by me after I was notified by TBN users of the thread. After I removed those posts I was going to post a note in the thread as to why the posts were removed, since there were too many to PM to. When I went to post to that thread I noticed that someone else had locked the thread. I made a note in the moderator's area so that the other moderators would know who removed the posts. At that point, I was called to other duties (my real job) and did not send a PM to you, as I should have, since yours was the first one removed and the others were replies to your post. My apologies.

UncleBuck,
I did get a post removed one time, so it happens. I was furious with someone who posted that they regularly take 2 parking places in order to "protect" their car. o it got pulled, and it shoud have. We all can slip up once in a while.

And would it surprise you to know that some of the moderators, including this one, have had posts removed? Yep, and it needed to be removed. The good part is that it didn't cost us a cent.

As a party in the incident I want to ask one question about post removal.... Is it still setup that all replies to the initial "bad seed" post are removed by default? Now, unclebuck, I am not saying yours was a bad seed specifically. I am using that as a generic term. It is my understanding that this is the way the software works or is setup.... I have no qualms that my post was removed in the group, as I think we can agree things were not going in the right direction regardless of the reason. To be honest, I have made a few posts in the past that I looked back some time later and was shocked it was still there. Got a little upset with Mr. Messick for one.... but who hasn't done that?:D

With the new forum software, individual posts can be removed. However, when posts after the 'bad seed' quote the 'bad seed', or comment on them they are removed as well. Without the 'bad seed', subsequent posts may not make sense.

OK Mike. Thanks alot. That's makes perfect sense.

It's sad how some things turn out... one thread that got locked up yesterday after the original thread wad deleted was bad enough, I thought we were all past it and then people had to go and get nasty again. It stinks. I thought I had seen where some threads were locked and then unlocked again after everyone cooled off. Did I really see that, or was I dreaming it up? This seems like a good compromise where possible. Obviously that is not always the case though....

Besides the "bad seed" theory, there might be a different reason for my post removal on that thread ;)

It is really nice. My boss does expect me to pay attention to what goes on here. I probably spend more time than I should though. ... But I don't get to do it on the weekends usually either...:(
