TYM T474
I have a T474 I'm getting ready to sell. Oddly, it never says on my paperwork what year model it is. Is there a way I can tell from the serial number to be exact?

L S can you explain why you are selling the TYM T474 , what problems are showing up . This tractor was on my short list mainly because the Cummins engine and no computer or turbo.

Tractors normally are sold by model number and not year of manufactory as vehicles are. You can check tractordata.com and see if they have the info. They do for many tractors, you will need it's serial number if they have your brand and model.

Did you ever get a response? Would be good info for others considering this tractor.

As already mentioned, the serial number is the best way. BUT... Manufacturers need to release that info--It's not always public. Another possibility is to check all the major castings. (Engine block, transmission, rear housing.) Many manufacturers have casting dates cast-in those parts as a means of "aging" before they're machined. They could be dd/mm/yy format or ddd/yy. Some may just be month and year. Dates in the first half will generally be that year tractor. Later dates may be assembled in the next year.

My Ford 3910 has a casting date in January, 1986 as "15-1-86" on the rear housing. The serial number confirms the 1986 year of manufacture.

Here's a weird one RE TYM serial numbers.

I just purchased a new 4820 that my local dealer had ordered and received from TYM (not a dealer to dealer exchange).

Its serial number is SFJX00001 (?!?)

It has been my experience that the first part of a VIN/SN identifies the model and/or place of origin, options, etc, followed by a sequence number.

It is my understanding that tractors generally run the sequence numbers across many model years.

With the 4820 having been around for quite a few years now, how could my brand new tractor carry the sequence number of 1?

It seems like when TYM makes a minor change to a unit they use a new prefix (the letters at the beggining) then the numbers just start over.
Sometimes that change its even very much but it can make the parts guys life easier...

A good example is on the loader valve for the 15 series tractors, current models the valve is horizontal with a black plastic cover over it, the older ones it was vertical and had no cover. This changed part way through 2024 I think...
This makes a difference on which 3rd function that units gets. and probably changes hose length too I would think.
