Model A Ford.... I keep threatening.....

Just stumbled into this thread, ironically and by chance. A buddy of mine at work used to collect model A's, his grandfather got him started on them as a young teen. One he used to drive to work on occasion was basically a modern SUV configuration:

Sorta sticks it in the eye of Chevy claiming the Surburban as the first SUV. :p

I'm having trouble remember now, whether they had the same goofy controls as a model T, but I do remember they were not any standard 3 on the tree with 3 pedals configuration.

What you originally posted (Ford vid) WD, reminds me too much of what I detest about modern platforms.......

All this junk is great, if you want to buy new vehicles on a cell-phone span-of-life, but I don't.....

Guy in next-office to me (a mechanic), gets a call from a friend with a dealership video of his not that old Mazda CUV, needing a rear-diff (1,000 km out of warranty, which is only 80,000 km).

Whether or not I want/need/tolerate all the new electronic bling/nannies/spy-hardware is a separate topic.... the simple Diff failure ^ above is a good example...... in the overall platform budget, NOBODY can convince me that stuffing all the extra bling/monitoring garbage does anything but erode the budget for the key mechanical systems that need to function long-term....

Convince a population that they Need AWD, then put low-hour key components in..... KaChing, one way, or another......

(Not hating on Mazda.... I generally like their driving dymanics....).

Rgds, D.

Every time this gets bumped I click on it, hoping to see the OP's new-to-him Model A.
Everytime this thread gets bumped, I find myself disappointed. :D

Me too… does not appear a single Model A has been added to the TBN family…

I shoulda contacted you, Curt, back when this one was sitting at my place for a year. It is a '29 with rumble seat. Dunno how original it was, but it was kinda ratty.

It belonged to a friend-of-a-friend, who goaded me into getting it running again. I did get it running, but not for long. It only had 75psi compression, which is amazing it would run at all. 3 liters and only 40hp! Seriously?

Owner tried to get me to rebuild the engine, but it needed so much, and that ancient 6V flathead just cried out for replacement with a modern engine/tranny. To me anyway.

I'd put it back stock, otherwise drive a new(er) car. Keep it original if it survived all this time.

Target is 50-60 psi within 5 psi for stock 4.22 compression… as much as 75 with the 6.5 police head.

I’ve found when sitting for a very long time it’s not uncommon for valves to bind so as to not fully close…

Had one engine with no compression… turned out each cylinder had sticking valves which I was able to free up.

All my engines have babbitt bearings and shims can be removed to compensate for wear using plastigage.

I’ve never driven farther in a day than from Oakland to Reno on US 50 for the National Convention that year…. it was an enjoyable drive and even before cell phone folks were snapping pictures along the drive…

Some use 8-volt battery instead of 6 but keep an extra Ben fix spring and bolts if you do.
